I’ve been looking for an easy and cheap solution to my lack front cameras. Looked into the anytime front, but not keen on disassembling trim or messing with wires.

Came across these Wi-Fi hitch cameras…if they work, seems you could just charge them up and stick them on the front skid via magnet to function as a trail cam.

Anyone have any experience with these?

 

I had a similar one on my trailer and it worked fine. Don’t see why this wouldn’t work for your situation. It’s not as fast as an integrated camera that appears on your head unit, but as long as you don’t mind manually connecting it to your phone when you want to use it, it should suffice.

Edit: would that even stick though? The stock skids are aluminum I think and the bumper is plastic.

 

I have used 5 different wireless cameras ranging from $40 to $120, each and every one died after a few months. The wifi transmitter introduces another flaky element. Even when the camera was working, I had to power cycle it a few times on each trail ride. Each time the camera is power cycled, I had to repeat pairing on the phone, becoming a nuisance on the trail.

I've also used a GoPro, which gives you a live view through the GoPro app. The camera shut off a bit over an hour, likely due to overheating.

Don't mount it on the skid plate as it'll get destroyed very quickly. Mount it higher, maybe a steel angle off the license plate bracket.

 

I’m wondering if you could run a wire through the engine bay beneath the hood, up below the wipers and around the outside of the A-pillar into a display in the cabin as a lazy workaround. (or maybe into the door through the weatherstripping? Not sure if there will be room)

And pull off + unplug the camera when not in use? Maybe you could find something that can screw into the grill itself so you can have something more solid than a magnet.

I appreciate the info. Thinking I’ll end up with the anytime camera, just not happy about the surgery to install it.

 

^3 trucks in my off road club have the anytime kit installed. Expect to replace the camera yearly (~$40). The system is pretty reliable otherwise, none of the flakiness of the wireless ones.
