4th Gen newbie

I've had a 3rd gen for awhile now and has almost 300k and still going strong for the most part. I'm soon to acquire a 2006 V8 Sport Edition 4wd from a friend that is well taken care of and has about 150k on it. From everything I've read it will have the XREAS system. I believe i would like to upgrade to bilstein 5100s with OME coils for about a 2in lift or so and level it and then get probably 265/70R17's with the newer bronze TRD 17in wheels. Think that would would work and look okay? Mostly that tire size because from what I can tell that size will still fit in the spare location on the underside. Thanks!

Fine idea to upgrade shocks, whatever you want to, just dont forget that Xreas is physically connected to the stock shocks and is functionally useless if you swap to aftermarket shocks. Not everyone connects the dots that you cant use 3rd party shocks and expect Xreas to keep working. As for tires those are one of the stock tire sizes so thatll work just fine if fitting under the rear is your main concern. For your info, a number of folks have reported that up to a 285/70r17 can fit, though it does seem to matter which manufacturer... a 285 from Cooper may not be identical to BFG or General, etc. Others would have to chime in here as my 255/80r17 sure as hell dont fit.

Thanks for the info! Yes I’m aware that the XREAS will no longer work and I’m ok with that from everything I’ve read. I’ll check into the tire size, but I would like to keep a full spare underneath as I don’t foresee ever getting a new rear number and/or tire swing gate on the back.

bumping this up with an update: The 4th gen V8 4runner I was going to buy 2 years ago from my friend got totaled 2 weeks before I was to take it. Extremely sad day. I kept driving my 99 4runner which now has almost 300k miles, but 25 year old parts are starting to break so I've been keeping an eye out for another v8 in good condition with lower miles and found one! Picking it up monday in ATL and I'm super excited to begin the transformation to make it my own. Couple questions:

1. If doing Xreas delete and going with the common bilstein 5100/OME combo for about 2in lift do I need to invest in new bumpstops? I won't be doing very heavy offroading, at least not for the time being.

2. I've seen a lot about the SAIS bypass. Is it needed? if so, should I get the plug and play system from Hewitt tech? Does it affect performance at all?

3. With the lift mentioned above thinking about sticking with 265-70/17 or 275-70/17 mostly to be able to keep a same size spare underneath. Would 265's look too small with lift?

Sorry about what happened to you. What a bummer. Glad you found another one that you will be happy with. Are you in ATL, or just the vehicle? Asking because I live in metro Atlanta.

I’ll leave questions 2 and 3 to others, but as for bump stops, there are two ways to look at it. IMO, they are nice to have, not have to have. So it would be fine to wait.

On the other hand, if you’re in there and have everything taken apart, and your budget isn’t an issue, might as well just get it all done if you’re planning to do it anyway.

FWIW, I have SuperBumps from Wheeler. Product is a 9, customer service is a 2. Mine were delayed, and that’s fine, but just let me know. Instead, I had to follow up several times just to get somebody on the phone only to be strung along with, “they’re shipping next week” about 3 different times. It would’ve been comical toward the end if I wasn’t so mad, because I talked to people who obviously didn’t know that others had told me the same fib.
