Completed TSA Pre-Check process today

Completed the TSA Pre-Check process today and acquired my "KTN" number or Known Traveler Number. Fairly painless process. $78, started the process at a Staples office goods store in Carmel Mtn. Ranch (San Diego) and finished up online. When you get your "KTN" number it is used when you purchase airline tickets and you can skip the big lines at the airport, no taking off your shoes, belt, etc. If you are age 71 like I am, taking my shoes off and putting them back on is a big ordeal. Last time I was at the airport (Lindberg in San Diego) and messing with my belt and shoes, there was an older lady next to me in line that started tapping her plastic tub with her fingernails to let me know I was taking too damn long! She had this punk purple streak in her gray hair and gave me "the look".

 

I made my wife do that with me because airports give me anxiety, especially security. Her idea of perfect is walking directly from security to your already boarding plane, where I always get there early because security is the wildcard. TSA-Pre is a good middle ground so we can get there later for her and I know it wont be that long getting through. Shoes on and just throwing the carry-on through x-ray is a huve bonus too

 

You’re 71 years young my friend, old ladies with coloured streaks are especially on my list of “People I don’t want to be around” glad the KTN process was fairly simple for you, from one 4Runnerite to another, happy flying traveller!

 

When we fly out of San Diego International Airport (Lindberg Field) we arrive 2 hours early to give ourselves time to check in and navigate
the TSA lines. It can be a real bad start to a vacation to stand in all those lines and get hustled through. Maybe with the TSA Pre-Check done
it will be a better start to a vacation.

 

I miss the days when I had it through work. I never had to worry about when to renew, but now it's on me. It was funny how they fussed over the fingerprints.

 

If anyone is going to enroll into TSA pre check do yourself a favor and do the global entry from the beginning even if you don’t think you will travel internationally because honestly you really don’t know what the future is going to hold for you. It is around an extra $30-$35 and is done at the same time you get your KTN for pre check. You will be happy you did if you ever take an international flight.

 

The Global Entry process is a bit of a hassle I understand. Now that I've done the TSA Pre-Check I'll give the other a shot.
