Just purchased a 2021 SR5 Premium. Wanted the TRD Pro but settled with the SR5 for financial purposes and I’m not doing any off-roading in the near future.

I would like to make some initial upgrades including: 1) Black emblem overlays 2) Install new rugged looking running boards (I’m not a fan of the chrome) and 3) new wheels and tires.

Does anybody have good recommendations for #1 or #2?

For the tires, I would like to go a size up and get some A/T’s that are bulky (similar to TRD) but would still fit on the truck. Unsure if I’d have to/or should lift the truck for a more balanced look.

I also plan on getting the windows tinted. Ultimately I would love the blacked out, rugged look and any advice on getting me there is appreciated!

    Welcome!

You can get black overlays on Amazon or eBay, I went with OEM,

As for running boards I got some NFabs on OfferUp for $50, but ended up replacing the with some sliders

IMO they are pretty much the same. SR5 can be build more capable than TRD Pro. From suspension to lockers and in between with remote start to audio upgrades.

    • I dislike black emblems as I find them ugly at night. As factory I can see at night.
    • running boards / predator steps - they are far from "rugged". but I do like the look of those OEM plastic running boards and seem them as functional as a step.
    • new wheels and tires - I see no problem with SR5 wheels to my eyes. They are same width as expensive TRD Pro wheels. TRD Offroad wheels are higher on the functionality for been a wider wheel and have some protection to valve step. May be light weight good looking A/T tires would give a nice look to the SR5.

On a side note my SR5 was a 7 seater and really love the practicality over a 5 sear 4Runner. But 7 seats may not be others choice who carry gear or don't take kids & their friends to movies or office friends to lunch out and what not.

This is just my opinion as a average / basic user.
