Just purchased a 2021 SR5 Premium. Wanted the TRD Pro but settled with the SR5 for financial purposes and I’m not doing any off-roading in the near future.

I would like to make some initial upgrades including: 1) Black emblem overlays 2) Install new rugged looking running boards (I’m not a fan of the chrome) and 3) new wheels and tires.

Does anybody have good recommendations for #1 or #2?

For the tires, I would like to go a size up and get some A/T’s that are bulky (similar to TRD) but would still fit on the truck. Unsure if I’d have to/or should lift the truck for a more balanced look.

I also plan on getting the windows tinted. Ultimately I would love the blacked out, rugged look and any advice on getting me there is appreciated!

    Oooh look, another mod.....

    1) Amazon!

    2) Extreme Terrain

    3) Wheel & Tires. I'll only recommend tires, because wheels are subject to what style/color you want. I'm biased, so I'm going to recommend Falken Wildpeaks. I didn't have to go up a size at all to get an aggressive/rugged look.

    4) If you get the windows tinted, get it done right and go ceramic. It costs more, but it's worth it. Both in looks, longevity and the heat that it blocks.

Before you decide to lift it or level it, drive it and take it off roading first. Most people realize they don't need to lift it. The 4Runner in stock form is a highly capable truck.

    Hello and welcome from Texas...

have you looked at the factory black out kits?
if you buy from toyota online dealer, many don't collect sales tax, and are currently offering free shipping and bigger discounts for July 4
    I've bought from these guys
    https://autoparts.lewistoyota.com/

You can find cheaper black out kits on Amazon or eBay, but according to yota xpedition you tube, they don't have as much detail as toyota products
and with free shipping and no sales tax, may be close to equal in price

if you want cheap, you can always find the predator steps on this board in the marketplace section...or local Craigs list

also, check the marketplace here for take off wheels and tires...

and +1 for paying extra and getting ceramic tint if you live where its hot...
I got ceramic tint on mine, all windows, sunroof, and windshield...Im driving a dealer service loaner 4Runner now with only the cheap dealer tint on the front windows and the A/C can barely keep up with the heat.
Ceramic windshield tint makes ALOT of difference

You can do some blackout items inside as well. I did the steering wheel controls black out along with the shifter bezel/cover overlay.

I blacked out my silver roof rails by unbolting them from the roof and taking them to a paint shop and had them painted a satin black color. Made all the difference in getting that black out look you’re looking for.

Bagman - Do you think that spray will work on the chrome wheels or is that a dumb mistake? I want black wheels also but might just have to wait until I can afford nice dark allow wheels that come with all terrains

Do a search on painting wheels. I've never done it myself although many others have with good success. I sold my snowflake wheels for a set of off-road take-offs. Net cost was $200

I see that you put TRD tires on the SR5. What size did you go with for the tires and did you have to lift the truck at all to fit the TRD tires?

You will want to use a paint made just for wheels. I found this for you.

In the picture, those are stock size 265-70-17.

When I bought it the TRD Pro rims had 285-70-17 and a 3/2 spacer lift. I removed the lift and 285’s a couple of years ago.

I bought a black steering wheel from ebay as I was being petty and wanted those useless phone buttons on the wheel to be black, the overlay on shifter area was an Amazon find. Floormats came from a member on here as Iiked carpet better bit mine is a sr5 and not a TRD.

I didn’t like the slick top look. Reminded me of a BWM X5 roof. I think a roof rack gives it that off-road look.
