Put a bunch of foil down on this one spot right here. Normally I'd be drinking scotch right now getting ready for what comes next but I'm all out.

Got my Kenwood CMOS-740HD rear camera working. JB welded it to the stock mount. There's not enough room in there to make to work with the camera's mount or mounting holes.

Ground off the mounting plates for the stock inverter to fit a 500 watt Victron. Not sure how that's going to fit just yet but I'm working on it.

Replaced the rear cigarette light socket with USB

Replacing the rear AC socket internals with much beefier stuff just in case stock couldn't handle it

Last pic is the AC socket being held right while plastic JB weld dries

this is about my ability level...
was thinking of replacing the rear cigarette lighter with the toyota dual USB adapter they sell for the front facia...
do you think that would work?

Also, now that you have practiced on yours, would you willing to do all that to my truck for $200?

It's really easy. I'm in the bay area. If you are too I'll help you. I'm guessing you're in Texas. But all you gotta do is...hardest thing is probably removing the rear plastics as you might not be able to get to the wires in there otherwise.

The cigarette lighter did take a sec to figure out how to remove

Dremel the hole slightly bigger hole, USB thing off Amazon goes right in

Cut the plug off that went to the cigarette lighter socket, then crimp on plug like this. These DT style are frickin amazing

I guess you also need to crimp on connectors to connect to the USB outlet

Im in Fort Worth, but thanks for the offer...
I was looking at the Toyota dual port?
    https://autoparts.lewistoyota.com/products/product/usb-dual-power-ports-pt97603201

and I got plenty wiring, extra relays, and connectors from my lighting upgrades on my 3rd gen...

do you have a nice wire crimper?
I always just used a pair of dykes, then I found kinipex...their pliers are great too

When I ordered mine, the default was black...
then you could select the color of the text...topo pattern, RUNNER, or OVRLND

I messaged him and asked about black with TRDPRO in red...he said he can put anything with 6 letters on it
Take a look at your bolt holes, notice the first and last ones are slightly different...well this seller makes the first and last letter differently so they fit

My first set was black with grey RUNNER

I think they are black, and just the color of the lettering changes

Bought some glass microfibers, a drying microfiber and some wheel brushes at harbor freight all 30% off.

Scrubbed my wheels and tires down really well.

Ordered cat guards from Cali raised.

So here's what I did today. If anyone can tell me this is dangerous and I shouldn't do it please do and also tell me why. I've been wrestling with this for a lot of months and ultimately decided that the trunk plastics provide the same outcome as the outer shell than came with the inverter. It was important to me to have a pure sine inverter tucked away and a stock-style outlet used.

    Welded on a grounding bolt.

Test fit the inverter, cut pieces of it off including the AC outlet - will wire this to the stock AC outlet I have upgraded with a new outlet and thicker wire.

spot welded the tabs of the inverter directly to the wheel well. Welding a nut to the wheel well or any sort of bracket would have made the inverter sit higher and caused clearance issues. Cut more inverter off. Test fit more. Finished spot welding and then painted. The Foil is to protect the interior from the welding sparks.

Waiting for paint to dry / cure and will wire this up with quick disconnect plugs.

The inverter is "backwards" with the AC outlet apposite side of the car's AC outlet because I was able to cut more off that side so it would clear the plastic shelf thing that sits on top.

nice to see what the truck looks like under all the plastic...sure some folks will be referencing your pics in the future for their own mods

what equipment do you anticipate running that needs a pure sine inverter?
between the upgraded wiring and new inverter, how much power can you pull from your plugs?

Starlink mini, and a toughbuilt box with Oz Tech mounting base.

    PXL_20240630_230514109.jpg

I wouldn't necessarily drive with it up there (use in motion is not included with mini service anyway) but the included pole mount fits on one of the the Tred mount knobs nicely with a longer bolt.

I don't have the type c power cable yet; it's drawing right at 30w from the Delta 2 via AC.

My eco flow battery bank can't charge off the stock inverter because it's not pure sine. That's the impetus behind this. And I'm sure other stuff would need pure sine as well.

And this is only 500 watts instead of the 400 watt stock. I didn't want to have to run that thick of a wire for 1000 watts. Also IMO you need to upgrade your alternator if you're running that much and have an upgraded stereo.

My eco flow could charge off the cigarette lighter but that was slow. So now I can charge that fast and then also charge other batteries like drone batteries with the the USB outlets it now has.

None of that needs the thick wire I upgraded to. This wire is for 15amp like for your house or something. The reason why i upgrade the wire is this inverter can momentarily go pretty high watts and the stock wire to the stock AC outlet is really pathetic and I was worried that it might be an issue while for those brief jumps it wattage.

In short I just looked at the stock inverter as almost worthless.

Edit: the eco flow has pass through power meaning if it was being charged by this 500 watts and if say 1000 watts is being pulled from the battery, then only 500 watts would come from the battery. This would allow me to idle the car and charge the ecoflow if I wanted to run a hot plate or hair dryer for the wife or something. So there is a decent option to run high powered devices and not have the ecoflow drain super fast.

Picture of the stock wires on top of the upgraded plug.

I installed a dashboard cover from Amazon. Small potatoes compared to what I see here!
Oh and I dusted off my 4Runner!

Doesn't count....pulled a tarp on the roof of my RV. It's been really sunny and hot here in this part of San Diego (92131)
