1st DIY oil change on this vehicle 23' 4runner. Dealer did the first 2 freebies.

Is the gasket still on the drain area or does this look normal? There was no other gasket on the bolt (I'm changing to fumoto valve)

Is an aluminum spacer missing here?

Yes, The drain plug gasket is still attached. Those can be challenging to get off. Took me a few minutes and finally got it free with a few slight taps on a brass pin punch.

Totally recommend the stud mod for the skid plate. Makes r/r for oil change a snap and you will never lose a spacer.

    Awesome, thanks!

Also, I was surprised to NOT see an oil filter door on a PRO skid plate? My Tundra PRO plate has the door, I figured the 4runner would as well.

Is the Tundra's oil filter as far above the skid plate as the 4R's?

I have always re-installed my skid plate bolts W/Mastinox. That's French product used on the Aerospatiale now Airbus helicopter. That sh1t could be on a bolt in the bottom of the ocean for 10 yrs & bet you could loosen it! Just a light coating on the threads works great!

That's it!! No I got it from previous employer BUT that is where you can purchase it. After yrs of just using fingers to apply an ex coworker said 'hey this stuff is highly caresonagite <sp?? we started wearing gloves & using acid brushes to apply :D. The stuff is great & very little needed. Makes a ness IF tooo much applied to T/R Bolts!!!! Like un-cured Pro-seal!!!

Not only is it "caresonagite" (were you trying to spell "carcinogenic", meaning it can cause cancer?), IT'S VERY EXPENSIVE, $190 for less than 5 1/2 ounces...OUCH!!

I thought that Mastinox was banned. Not only is it carcinogenic, but highly so! It was used in aviation on all kinds of things - landing gear and others.

It has been replaced by CA1000 made by PPG as a corrosion inhibiting compound.

SEALANTS PRODUCTS BY PPG FOR THE AEROSPACE INDUSTRY - PPG Industries - Aerospace (ppgaerospace.com)

It is used by manufacturers like Boeing, Bell Helicopter, Airbus...

Mastinox, and now CA1000 is used externally on hardware as a coating to prevent corrosion on the exposed portion of hardware.

Yes, a shortcoming of the Toyota OEM gasket. Take a pocket screwdriver and flick it at the inside diameter.

I use Dorman 12mm / 1/2" copper drain plug gaskets P/N 65271 (2-pack), available at most auto parts stores. These don't stick to the oil pan like OEM gaskets.
