Driving in S

Been layed up for 2 months and could drive, went out today with the Mrs driving (very scary)... Anyway I noticed she put it in "S" I put it back on "D" she has been driving very little, no expressway only back roads 45-50... most is 7 miles at a time... Could this have damaged either the engine or transmission? All sounds and runs Nirmal at this time.. TIA

 

Nope, not going to hurt it at all, especially at those speeds. The worst that could have happened was a decline in gas mileage due to the transmission not being able to shift up into 5th and overdrive.

 

If she put it in "S" while driving, it will be in whatever gear it was in while in "D", and it will downshift automatically just like in "D". It just won't be able shift up beyond whatever gear it was set at. Unless she intentionally set it to drive 45-50 in first gear, it should be fine.

 

The control modules are not going to let you do anything to harm the vehicle except if you slam it in park then that's on you. All she did by using S is use more fuel because it limits upshifting to 4th gear like if you moved the shifter into 4 instead of D.

Sounds like a good plan.

 

I would be more concerned about what beer does to your body than what "S" did to your transmission. Maybe she should be the one that is scared?

 

i drive in S mode and in 4th 90% of the time because i never get to go above 45 around my town. Once i hit 50+ for awhile, i shift into 5th

 

4th gear is pretty cool 75% of the time.
