How does everyone here in Texas deal with the front plates after an aftermarket bumper and winch install?

Fellow Texan here. Damn those license plate requirements lol
I opted for the c4 license plate mount. It installs behind the fairlead.

Once installed the license plate can be removed with two thumb screws so you don't damage it on the trail.
There are a few companies offering "flip up" style plate mounts that are pretty slick as well.

Thanks for the info. Dang......for $100 I think some good heavy duty zip ties might work.

I just got my truck in July and doesn’t have the front plate bracket. Anyone else run without the front plate and do you get pulled over for it?

My 4Runner came with a front license plate mount, but we don't need them here in FL. If anyone wants mine, let me know.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

I don't have a front license plate on my truck (I'm in the DFW area), but when I had my Tacoma I bought this from Amazon so I could mount a front plate to my steel bumper:

This was what it looked like on my Taco:

I didn’t run a front plate on my last truck after getting a winch bumper for a couple years. I guess I got lucky never getting pulled over, because a buddy of mine just got a $200 ticket for no front plate :anonymous:

Definitely don’t want a 200 ticket for sure. I hate to put holes in a perfectly good bumper. I see plenty of people without them in DFW

I ran my 2006 Toyota Tundra around down here in the central Texas hill country outside Austin for a little over 5 years without a front plate on it, because I had brought it down from Michigan with us when we moved to TX.

At the time we moved to TX in 2013, MI did not require a front plate. My wife made me install the front TX plate on her car once we moved down here, and I thought it made the car look like shit, plus I had to go buy the holder bracket for it, plus I had to drill holes in the front vinyl bumper, cover, which really pissed me off. But my attitude as far as my truck went was screw it, a plate will look like hell on the front of my truck, I’m not putting it on. Wifey said suit yourself, but you are going to get pulled over they will nail you. Well, I drove with no front plate on my Tundra down here for over 5 years with no problems.

So anyways, my now ex-son inlaw (ex = they got divorced) was a Dallas, TX police officer. He and my daughter came down to visit us. Of course he saw my Tundra and he noticed the front plate was missing and he asked me about it. I asked him if that was a problem. He said if I ran across the wrong cop it would be.

He told me that he himself doesn’t pull people over for just not having a front plate, given that he doesn’t notice anything else wrong or suspicious about their vehicle, and if they are not committing any sort of traffic violations. He said if he does pull them over for an offense, he does also nail them for no front plate as well.

He told me it’s going to depend on the cop. He said if the cop is a prick, and notices my truck with no front plate, the guy may come after me for just that alone, even if I’m otherwise perfectly obeying the traffic laws.

He recommended I put the front plate on. He asked me if I still had the plate. I said yeah it’s in the truck under my driver’s seat.

Well, unfortunately, wifey was right there and heard our conversation and she said that’s it you’ve been lucky. But now you’re going to put that front plate on your truck no ifs ands or buts.

So, crap, I did. And, I have a front plate now on my T4R. I don’t like it, but it’s on there.

I’m originally from Florida we never had to run them. Been here 20 years and this is the first vehicle I’ve purchased that doesn’t have the bracket installed from the factory.
