2022+ Redesigned Engine Oil Cooler

    I noticed 2022+ 4runner have a different oil cooler design. P/N 1571031101.

    Anyone know the reasoning behind the change ? Don’t recall any issues from the previous design.

    Looks identical to the unit used in the 200 Series land cruiser and 2nd Gen Tundra, shown below.

    The timing of the change is exactly during the Covid/supply chain era so it feels like they had to change suppliers or use existing parts.
    The oil filter housing also changed for 2022+.

    Physically, the inlet/outlet ports on the unit are in different locations and the old unit seems to have a “housing” or shield around it.

    anyways, I figured it was an interesting find to share, given how old the 5th gen is and mostly unchanged over the years.
    I know I can’t be the only one that nerds out about heat exchanger designs ;)
