It doesn't sit squarely in the clip or make solid contact on both sides of the clip. A good breeze will dislodge it. Anyway, I'm not saying that it bothers me or that I would install an alternative, just guessing why the OP may have chosen to do so.

If you’ll notice there are two wide flat “tabs” on the bottom neck of the fuel cap below the threads. You’ll want to make sure these wider flat tabs are at 9:00 and 3:00 they are made to sit in that holder stamped into the back of the fuel door and hold it snug.
If you just throw the cap in the holder, it could possibly fall out but if you twist the cap where those two tabs are parallel to the ground it helps lock the cap in place.

100%, why have 2 fuel cap holders. But more so why add a fuel cap holder that adds time to fueling by screwing it in rather than just hanging on the door hanger? Even the plastic strap can also be used to hang the cap even easier.

Cool either way, just interesting/odd add on.

That's the thing - I have to pinch the tabs together slightly for the threads to engage well on both sides. It's not off by much, maybe 1/8".

fair question, and I have an easy answer...

I searched the inter web for "2024 4runner useless shit to waste money on" and this fuel cap holder was the 3rd item listed

    https://www.etsy.com/listing/1358313130/5th-gen-4runner-threaded-gas-cap-holder?ref=yr_purchases

    I also bought items one
    https://www.tuxmat.com/products/8333-toyota-4runner-5-seater-custom-mat?year=2024

and two (it was even seen on shark tank)
    https://www.amazon.com/Rightline-Gear-Ascent-Folding-Vehicle/dp/B0C3WTS7JR

Do you think I should buy the TRD™ Oil Cap next?
Or the Toyota Door edge guards?

Too poor to buy anything now
Most definitely, it's a gain of 15 HP at the rear wheels.

I can't help but marvel at how clean and beautiful this looks. Mine's dirty and will probably never look like this.
