Hi everyone. I just picked up a 2024 SR5. I’m new to the the 4Runner world. Any advice and tips or stories will be greatly appreciated. Currently bone stock. Just ordered new tires and wheels. I’m looking to keep it stock height for now since I do not have any experience in off-roading. Thanks everyone!

Thank you guys, Falken Wildpeak AT4W just arrived. Heard these are heavy , but I couldn’t find any AT3W’s anywhere in stock.

Welcome! Staying stock sized and already ordering your tires has eliminated the most often asked questions, good on you. Search the build threads for inspiration, there's some good mods sticky threads in the 5th Gen and General 4runner talk forums.

Protip: pick a side on raptor lights and be willing to die on that hill. There is no middle ground.

Thank you so much for the tip! After much thought, research, and reading through all the forums. I’ve decided to stay stock sized and drive the truck for a while before I move onto the lifts and 285s. I picked the TRD pro wheels to stay as OEM as possible.

Welcome, from another white SR5 Premium 4WD owner. Mine is a 2022 model. I chose the white to help combat the hot Texas sun where I live. The AT tires will make a big difference in the appearance of your truck! I also had a local 4WD shop install a set of Bilstein model 5100 adjustable front shocks to raise the front end of my truck a bit. You may want to look in to that as one of your first mods. I love what it did for mine.

Thank you! Nice on the premium! I’m bone SR5 haha. Nothing special. May I ask how high did you raise it to? All the shops here charge a ridiculous amount for lift installations.

Nothing wrong with SR5! I bought my 2022 pre-owned / certified last November from our local Toyota dealer, and it just so happened to be the Premium model. Mine does not have a sun roof, nor did I want one. Mine also does NOT have the third row seating, nor did I want that.

If I remember correctly, those Bilstein 5100 adjustable front shocks have 4 settings- Factory stock height, and then 3 higher settings. I had my shop set mine up to the second from the highest setting. This still left me a wee bit of the so-called front "rake." But if I were to place much weight in the rear, I fear I will then get a reverse rake. But I will be running with no added weight in the rear a majority of the time. (Famous last words.) A lot of owners will also lift the rear of their vehicles a bit more if they do that lift in the front. I may yet raise mine in the rear just a tad. No big hurry on that though.

I also ditched my factory Dunlop all season tires for a set of factory sized Sumitomo Encounter AT tires, in the SL (Standard Load) load range. I'm not planning on going heavily off road, so SL should be fine for me. The Sumitomos ride and drive great. Got them from my local Discount Tire store.

Back to the Bilstein adjustable front shocks- Yes it was a bit expensive for me. My final bill was north of $800.00, which included a front end alignment, which I was told would be necessary after the work they performed. Some guys install these front shocks themselves. But I am retired, an old man, I'll be turning 69 come August, so I will not screw with such things any longer. Plus I've heard it can be potentially dangerous installing these shocks, since you have to mess with a spring compressor to compress the front springs to install the new shocks. No thanks.

Another couple tid-bits on mine- Member HuskerRunner above mentioned installing raptor lights. I initially installed them on mine, then my wife criticized me for doing that. She didn't like them, she said it would make my truck look like a UFO. So then I posted about that here to get some advice and opinions, and got a ton of comments and flak about raptor lights. So, I then removed them. Ha ha. But the thing that really sealed my decision to remove them was when I learned here that these so-called raptor lights were a Ford truck thing. I did not know that previously. I didn't want to be looked upon as a "wanna be" Ford guy, so OFF came my raptor lights! Much better, and as a bonus, happy wife happy life ha ha.

Other than that, mine came with running boards installed. I didn't particularly care for them, and was going to take them off. But then I made the mistake of telling wifey about my intentions, and she said no, she wanted the running boards left on. She likes them for getting up and down / in and out of the vehicle, so they remain on. Oh well. Sooth the savage beast. Just kidding.... ha ha.

I also recently installed a pair of Cali-Raised anti-theft catalytic converter shields under my truck, to help thwart the theft of the cat converters. I was able to do this myself at home. I have a set of ramps, that made the job fairly easy. It would be more of a pain without the ramps.

Again, welcome, and congrats on your purchase of a new 5th gen T4R! I think these 5th gens are really going to hold their value, even once the 6th gens come out with their pee-wee 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engines. Sorry. I am just not a fan of or a believer in small displacement turbo-charged gasoline engines. I worry about their longevity down the road. I'll be holding on to my bullet proof dinosaur 4.0L V-6 for a long time to come. I am not a hot rodder or a stop light drag racer, and I'm not hauling a load or pulling a trailer. The 4.0L V-6 has plenty of oomph for this here old man. LOL.

Thats the one that's at the Dealership! $33k 2019 Though. If they would give me $10k trade for my Corolla I would do it?

Welcome. Great choice on color and trim. And tires. Those are the tires I have and they’re amazing.

Another welcome from SoCal. I picked up my 2024 SR5 on Father's Day. So far only a couple of interior goodies from Amazon.
Coming from a 2006 Tacoma Pre-Runner TRD Pro into the next century with the 2024 so I am still on the learning curve of updating.
Man, I'm happy with just having a back up camera. My wife and I are really enjoying the drive in the 4Runner.
    She's happy, I'm happy!

Thank you for your detailed response! Other than the amazing tank of a truck. The community is awesome! Wife and I have been driving teslas for the past few years. I'm so sick of all the technologies in modern day cars, especially EV's. It feels so refreshing in this day in age where I have a simple, reliable vehicle without any bells and whistles.
