I'm attempting to install the wiring "harness" I made in order to convert my DRL's to led. I need to attach the ground wire to a grounding location on the passenger side fender. It's difficult to get at the bolt so I've tried to remove the cover off of this filter or whatever it is to get more room. What is it and how does the cover come off? There is one tab that I can find. I've lifted it and tried to remove it, but it won't budge...

I don't think it's meant to come apart.

That's the secondary air pump (SAIS), the cover comes off but there's 3 bolts that hold it to the fender on the bottom of it

Yeah, I was trying to avoid unbolting the whole unit by just removing the cover but it sounds like it'll have to come out.

Great, but how? I can only find the one tab and lifting it does not free the cover. I don't want to crack the plastic.

Related question. I know Tacoma's had issues with the Secondary Pump, my Tacoma didn't have one. Are there similar issues in 4R's?

2012 Tacomas had unusually high failure rates on the pump. Later years weren't as bad, and neither were the 4Runner and FJ. However, the system is unreliable long term (like around the 8-year mark) - usually the switching valves being exposed to hot exhaust gases, coke up and get stuck.
