These coils look weird to you?

I have some aftermarket rear coils for my 2023 Tundra. Driving home with the windows down I noticed some metal chattering going over bumps in the road. Climbed under to see the rear coils.

So coils 1-5 are sitting on each other. Like you can't slide a piece of paper in between them. Is this normal on an empty bed?? Seems weird to me.

*also posted on Tundras.com but they'll just say I should of bought a 2nd gen

I don’t think those are gonna work for you Pablo, you are barely using half of the spring and soon the smashed together coils will break.

I appreciate the input, and unfortunately I have to agree. This is my first full sized truck so I thought maybe I missing something, but my gut said this isn't right.

Over rough road you can hear metal chattering which cannot be right.

You installed these yourself? What brand and P/N are the springs? Stock springs have a progressive design. By making the top few coils stack solid, greater stiffness is achieved, which may have been an advertised feature of the aftermarket springs.

Stock springs and quality aftermarket springs include a plastic sleeve over the top few coils to negate the metal chattering known as "coil slap". Looks like your springs lack those. Picture of Eibach springs from Accutune showing the sleeves:

You can buy spiral wrap like this and put them over the top few coils. Pick a size that matches your spring wire diameter: https://www.amazon.com/Electriduct-Polyethylene-Expandable-Abrasion-Protector/dp/B016045OY6

I can't find the PN but these are Dobinsons 0-110lb load springs. These were installed by a reputable local offroad shop.

The thing that's making me feel this isn't right also is the metal chattering over small bumps, and the rust beginning to form between those top coils from the contact. We're talking noise over cracks in the road, all the time.

Thanks for the coil wrap idea. Not sure it would work for me as I would need 5 full rounds of wrap, and I'd be jacking up the truck to get the wrap on, and then the weight of the static truck would just be sitting on the wrap haha. We'll see what Dobinson's says when they reply to the pictures I sent them.

Yeah, he just needs to add some wrap in the last few coils up to where it gets tight. Moving the stock plastic wrap over to the new springs is the normal thing to do during an installation.
