Yes as long as you got the correct one for the 5th gen. It’s just meant to prevent the filtering media from moving around. The OEM Toyota filter works really well too and might be cheaper depending on if you buy in bulk. The most important thing is frequency of synthetic oil changes.

The TRD filter has metal caps on the ends. It will work fine but I would look at Wix instead of Fram for the next change.

Thanks! I'm pretty OCD so I'll be doing oil changes every 5,000 miles on the dot.

I'll take that route next time. Thanks!

It’s too bad they discontinued the TRD oil filter I always liked it. The Amsoil one used to be great too, they seemed identical but it is now made in Mexico instead of the USA and I’ve noticed the quality is much worse like the black adhesive to fix the metal caps is also in random areas inside the filter covering up some of the slots which should be unimpeded for max oil flow. The royal purple one is now made in Mexico too. I’m thinking this is why Toyota no longer offers it based on the lower quality. Champ Labs made the premium oil filters for Toyota, Amsoil and Royal Purple. They made the decision to close production in USA and move it to Mexico. Since these are really no longer an option I’m just going with the Toyota standard OEM oil filter. No matter the quality of oil you use I would always change at 5k intervals. This is what the carcarenut guy also recommends.
