A few weeks ago I installed some freedom offroad uca's on my 4runner. When I did the job I had never done uca's before and I installed 2 of the washers backwards (of course 1 on each side wrong). So today I pulled the bolts and fixed them, lubed my bushings with silicone grease too. It went so much easier the second time around. Always amazes me when you do a job once how much easier it gets afterword to do the same job. I enjoyed doing it too even in the 100 degree heat in my garage.

Yeah, I prefer doing things I've done before. With new stuff, I get nervous taking apart a perfectly good vehicle for a maintenance procedure.

Maybe if I had an air conditioned/ heated shop with a lift I would.

I like wrenching, but Texas weather makes it a fuckin nightmare.

Agree, I definitely do not miss the midwestern summers. One of many reasons I moved.

Colorado native… wife and I are going to Texas at the end of the month (Galveston) and I’m curious what the weather will be like. We’ve been in February and April before and haven’t minded it, but I hear the summers can be brutal.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
My son lives in TX/Austin and I’m in the NV high desert(~5K ft) and he says it is much hotter/high humidity there, I do not envy you. I spent 6hrs yesterday outside in the garage in the low 90’s working on my truck. It was hot but not so bad I had to stop(I’m going on 70), the humidity was only at @10-15% which helps a lot and drinking lots of water is absolutely mandatory. Your sweat evaporates almost as fast as you put it out which cools the body and it can fool you into dehydration, just gotta take the time to drink lots of water……ask me how I know…..

I will say working on the T4R is much easier and enjoyable than other vehicles I've owned. Especially the driveway dance I've always had to do. The T4R had easier access to things, rather than the the constant taking of 5 parts just to reach the failed part of the compact import cars.

I enjoy not having to work on my 4Runner, because it does not need any work :)

More seriously, I was mildly annoyed that my regular floor jack would not clear running boards while lifting so I had to bring a low clearance jack that I normally use to lift my track cars. I don't own a bottle jack.

first, I’m sorry you’re going to Galveston. Poopy wastewater ocean, ugly beaches, and it’s going to be hot and humid. You’ll be ready to go home as soon as you get there.

    Enjoy is the wrong word,
I like simple tasks like changing my own oil, spark plugs, and air filter...feels kinda like Im keeping my hands on them

But even non hard tasks like front brakes, I take to the dealer...

I do enjoy working on my 1944 Ford Army Jeep...diagnosing the problem is part of the challenge, then finding parts
My dad bought it in 1982 for $1500...and dad, my brother, and I restored it in our garage...

These days its hard to find a mechanic to work on anything without an OBDII port...

    Since last July, I've enjoyed:
    -replacing a clutch
-all new brake shoes, drums, and soft brake lines
-replacing rear axel that sheared off about 2 hours after the new clutch
-new Pittman arm and tie rod ends
    -rebuilt Carter carburetor
    -new coil, points, and plug/wires

Jeep is down since March waiting for the last guy left in Fort Worth that actually rebuilds old parts...to rebuild starter and generator,
it will be over 100 degrees in the garage when me and my brother install the starter and generator...hoping its ready for July 4th parades

    But I will enjoy it,

I will remember being 5 years old and helping my dad bleed brakes with a mason jar in the driveway,
and the 100's of hours we spent together working on old cars

I wish I could get the kids interested in learning to wrench cars...

Wait for temps to come down a few degrees during night time. Then you can "enjoy" the non-rusted line fittings and intermediate shaft splines.

Luckily, very little rust on it. Thankful for that. And yes, even though it gets no cooler than 90 at night, it's still more tolerable.

And you didn't even get to practice using tin snips for the bolt to pass through, like on some Tacomas:

For a sense of accomplishment, work up a good sweat. Kind of like when a man cuts their own grass.

I use it as a distraction and sometimes as an opportunity to learn things about the vehicle. I get nervous sometimes because I don't have the skills and neither all the right tools so I tend to rush things and either I brake something or find myself stuck. I am building knowledge little by little and you guys have helped me a ton with all the stuff that gets posted here. The Pic is my latest project...trying to fix the damn front camera.

I used to enjoy wrenching when I was younger, now it's more of an annoyance or downright PITA, especially here in the Northeast where everything is a rusty POS within a few years.

I still do oil changes, brakes, etc, but it's something I have to work up the motivation to do, I am definitely not excited to do it.

I've always really enjoyed working on my vehicles. Now I won't even let anyone work on my stuff.

I do wrench on equipment and machines for a living. So I have pretty much all the tooling to do anything.

Not one bit. If I can find someone trustworthy to do it for me, I would always prefer that. Unless it is something simple like swapping filters, engine oil etc.
