The oil passage into the bearing cap is very small, less than 1/4” typically where it enters the cap. And even if it didn’t plug, having debris enter the bearing would be almost as bad.

But just like everyone else here I am guessing/speculating.

    lol what cluster f.

bunch of new hires at the ‘bama plant to fast track engine builds

    roll tide!

    https://youtu.be/wq0pNOQKY4E?si=JmYBcXHWXoi66RFG

the guy makes a rational point that Japan and bama built engines all are part of this recall. Yota lies.. very little chance both sites suffer this metal shaving issues.

What a nightmare for Toyota. Would love to have been sitting in those meetings. Still wondering if it's an engineering problem, materials problem, or build problem.

Have you considered therapy to help resolve this hatred you seem to have for Toyota?

Wanting them to resolve the problem is fair, but your posts read like a bitter divorcee trying to get revenge on an ex who cheated.

Ok, fair point… I made a mistake and missed that you were talking about the other engine. I’ll retract the comment.

I think it is management problem. Look at connected services they are trying to force into every car. This anti-consumer behavior is not accidental.

Similarly, I think Toyota decided to abandon Toyota-way of conservative (and reliable) design they are known for and chase new tech. Perhaps they think that is the only way they going to get past planned ICE bans of 2030s. I personally think that these would be postponed by decades.

My neighbor has a Tundy involved in the recall. Told me last night they’re discussing three options - motor rebuild, motor replacement or market value offer for the entire….frickin…truck.

I would take the market value. The market value of a tundra might be pretty low right now though.

Now they are recalling 145,000 Grand Highlanders and Lexus TX for some airbag issues. WTF.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 35 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 35yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
Every time I drive my base-stripped/zero option 22RE 4R I breathe a relaxed sigh knowing it doesn’t have all the complicated “luxuries” that my 22 has and certainly the 6th gen will have to deal with. Sometimes less is better.

Damn, I would take market value in a hurry.

What a crazy situation for Toyota.

Yeah, I mean…sounds like a no-brainer, right? For those who don’t have a loan on one, maybe. But what if… a person bought a brand new Tundy….now this happened…and that offer makes them upside down or even barely whole. So much to consider, right? Then there’s the time without a truck. Loaner vehicle? Who’s knows.‍♂️

Are those vehicles that have been delivered/sold to dealers or ones that the dealers have actually sold to individual buyers? There seems to be a hell of a lot of Tundras sitting on dealer lots right now.

I see a good amount of new Tundras on the road every day.

New Tacoma's are becoming quite popular around here as well.

Saw a bunch of both on my most recent road trip over Christmas.

    People are buying them.

May be some buy without knowledge just buying just because its a Toyota.

Some may buy it planing to sell when the warranty expires. Similar story with the friend who bought the 2024 Land Cruiser. Before buying I showed him the issues on LC owners forum and he bought it with a risk. Planning to sell / trade in when warranty expires.

Maybe some buy vehicles with that engine as not much good options out there. For example this 3.4twin turbo could go kabhoom and won't start again vs couple of friends BMW X5 & X7 have a brakes recall where you could loose breaking power and you cannot get it fixed immediately. There is a waiting line. After you get the first letter you have to call and get in the waiting line. Then you will be getting a 2nd letter to come in. One of my friend contacted the sales manager since he have some other problem and also carrying a little baby in his car. Per the sales manager said the only way you could get the vehicle in for the recall and get a loaner vehicle is "You have to get your vehicle on a tow truck in to the dealership. Then I can get the vehicle for immediate recall line."
My X7 friend wishes he could return the X7 under lemon law or something as he was having so many back to back issue. Vs my Tesla friend still happy with the Tesla despite its on its 2nd main screen. Since Tesla give him another Tesla without any trouble he is ok with it.

Maybe. Most people don't seem to keep cars very long anyways.

Non-enthusiasts probably don't know much about the 2022-2023 Tundra engine machining debris issue and they sure as shit don't know about a few TSB's here and there.

All and all, I chalk it up to early model growing pains. They'll sort it out.

We’re coming up on the 4th year of this model. Do you think they will sort out the growing pains soon?

Is four years to get the kinks worked out the new normal? I guess we should wait until 2028 to buy the new 4Runner?

I have to say, I'm noticing more and more newer Tundras on the road. They must be selling ok, as mentioned earlier. Buddy of mine is a Ford guy and has an F150. He rode with a friend in his Tundra, and my buddy commented on how fast it was.
