Got a few questions about this silver…bumper…on my bumper. My ‘21 TRDORP is gray with otherwise black trim and I think I’d like to make these black as well.

    1. What is it actually called?
    2. How easy is it to remove/replace?
    3. Off the top of your head, how much do new/slightly used ones go for?
Thank you! My apologies if I posted this in the wrong place.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

    1. What is it actually called? Rear bumper cover/valance cover.
    2. How easy is it to remove/replace? It's kind of easy to remove it. I think it just clips in.
    3. Off the top of your head, how much do new/slightly used ones go for? They go for about $100, depending on where you shop. Here's one on Ebay:
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/3949173172...FQqwIA2yQJ0mzpyhPf6j_pnr_GhkRo6MaAqMHEALw_wcB

FYI: They're all silver. If you want one in black or a different color, then you'll have to paint it. Just rattle can paint it with a flat black or a gloss black (whichever preference you have).

    Somewhat right.

    1. It's called a valance (can probably find them under the other names as well)
    2. It's easy to remove if you can get to the clips. Fronts are supposed to be relatively easy. You have to remove the entire rear bumper cover to get to those.
    3. Not sure what they sell for, both of mine are in the garage (along with all other OEM parts) in case I return to stock before I sell

The PRO's come with gloss black valances but they are stupid expensive from Toyota (just like the PRO grill). You could probably find cheaper takeoffs on facepage or ebay or Craigslist if you want the gloss black PRO version. I cut my front off for the low pro bumper and eventually replaced the rear with a cheap matte black from 4runnerlifestyle

There's a bunch of videos on YouTube of removing those; search for "removing" or "replacing bumper valance". I actually just did mine. It's not hard, just kind of tedious... I did remove the front bumper even though you technically can get away with not removing it, just because it's easier to work on it dismounted.

Be careful with buying used ones as those tabs break pretty easily when you drag your bumper off road, and the valances are the first things to get scratched off road too, so finding pristine ones is hard.

New knock offs are $250 a set at 4runnerlifestyle; OEM ones are more. You could always paint or dip or wrap them but again, they are prone to getting trashed up so they won't look good for long if you just cover the silver.

Yup, $250 is correct, but you can get 'em in black!

Oh, that's the other thing I wanted to say about painting them. It's not as easy as rattle canning over top (that was my first choice for the rear). They are too smooth to hold paint well so you have to rough up the plastic (almost melt it) somehow to make it textured for it to hold paint well. I think I read that you can use acetone - there are threads on it. I opted to buy a replacement

Thank you everyone for your answers.

So I'm looking at about $250 or trying my luck with the paint. Or maybe I can find someone who has black ones and wants to trade for silver ones...?

No one wants to trade for the silver ones. You may as well ask someone if they want you to give them herpes.

Thanks for the headsup lol. Yeah, tried that once in college, and it did NOT go over well. I'll just spring for new ones.

If you need to remove it just do a water crossing and it will pop off. Several videos on YouTube demonstrating this, however I don’t have the links readily available.

You got to hit it pretty hard to lose the valance. I've lost the front plate before - it's somewhere on the back side of Mono Lake - but I've never lost the valance.

Bro if you have the SO (you do) and the TRD wheels (you do) you have to get a black valance. Silver does not look right on that color - and especially with nothing else silver on the vehicle. Certain colors silver looks good on and with the OR wheels - MGM, blue, white maybe. SO is not one of those colors. Spend the 45 minutes and do the work!

I got the oem black trd pro front valence on offerup for $80. I paid full for the oem rear pro black valence because I got tired of waiting to find a used one and the rear would be less likely to find. Currently there is an oem black pro valence near me for $100. If you're not in a rush you can find the oem ones for a deal.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
Myself, I’m not that enamored with the silver nor the black…..maybe paint the SR5 type body colored valances if I do anything at all.

I think at that point I'd just swap someone for SR5 bumpers as it may look cleaner. I'll probably do that at some point with the rear end when I get that 80% rear bumper so the valence holes wouldn't show.

Bam has the factory black TRD valances for $210.00 for the rear and $225.00 for the front .
These are factory, not knock offs .

I replaced my silver valances with OEM TRD Pro black ones (expensive, but I didn't want to paint and didn't have confidence in the aftermarket options). The biggest pain in the a$$ during my installation was removing the front valance, trying to squeeze my hands up in there behind the bumper cover and then popping out those plastic retainer clip things. I think it made it harder that it was really cold outside when I did it. The rear bumper cover removal was not that big of a deal, and it was much easier to remove the rear valance due to the better access, having the rear bumper cover off. Reinstalling both valances was very quick and easy.
