Is my Toyota app working incorrectly for my new 4R or is it really as bare bones as it is?

Coming from a ‘23 Tacoma, my Toyota app had so many QoL functions.

    Through the app I could:
    -Remote start (I know ‘24 SR5 can’t at all)
    -Lock/unlock doors
-Get notifications if I left doors unlocked or windows down when parked
-See trip details like route traveled on a map, mpg, driving habits etc
-view vehicle location on a map

The ‘remote’ tab literally has nothing there except how many miles to empty. I can view tire pressure, “find” my vehicle on a map, and that’s about it. I can’t view previous trips, remote lock/unlock, or get notifications about doors unlocked or windows being open after parking.

I have at least 1 year of full app features prepaid through a new vehicle purchase, but I can’t imagine paying a dime after the free year since the app does almost nothing.

Is the 4R app feature list really that archaic compared to its just-as-old Tacoma brother?

Only the Limited and Pro Bro in the the US have more functions. All the others get nothing.

Wow really? I knew they were the only ones with a remote start but I had no idea they’d also have different app features. Oh well, not a big deal I just don’t see why anyone with an OR or SR5 would pay $80 a year for app access when it does nothing really unless you regularly forget where you parked.

Yeah, the app is useless for most trim lines. Strictly speaking, the $80/year isn't for app access, it's for connected services, most of which don't require the app or even use it. The manual spells out pretty well what they do and don't do. I let mine lapse after the year was up and don't really notice any difference. (Except the SOS button is no longer functional).

I'm trying to figure out why you would want the following available on the internet:
    1. Vehicle location on map
    2. Mapped locations the vehicle would be located, like home and work
    3. If the vehicle doors are locked or unlocked
    4. The ability to unlock the doors of your vehicle (especially at home and you have the ability to open a garage door from inside the vehicle)
    5. Remote start the vehicle

All of these things sound like a boosters wet dream. I know not all criminals are smart, but all it takes is one teaching others and these conveniences can (will) be abused

I have a 24 4Runner off-road and almost all the features on the app won’t work. Called Toyota and they said not all vehicles have the program for the app. For whatever reason.

I got an aftermarket radio and that unlocked a whole plethora of cool functions such as tire psi monitor, code readout, battery voltage, digital gauges, accurate oil and coolant temp

Bare bones is what the oem Navi is :/
