I've been over 100F on road trips in the midwest and southwest without feeling unduly warm. I don't know what it's like in the passenger area, though.

My 13 that I traded in for my 23 had much better AC, rarely did I go over one click. Now my wife's 17 Outback will chase you out with that AC, that one doesn't play around. I've had my 23 for 6 months now so am getting used to the AC, but definitely miss my old truck's AC performance.

When using the sunshade, I don’t normally have to run it at full blast, or if I do it’s for a short amount of time, but I will pay attention to it this weekend. It’s supposed to be in the high 90s here so should be a good test.

Best car A/C I have experienced has to be my 04 Honda odyssey. The only time that thing even gave a hint of it being hot outside was when we hit 120F and set a state record. Worked better then our 2015 Subaru forester.

My 24 Pro freezes me out very quick. One of the best ac's I have had in multiple new vehicles I have had over the years.

I have a 23 w/ dual climate control and I have to keep it on auto at around 73-74 degrees or else I would be too cold. (And someone who likes it cold)

Same story with my '24 Limited. Setting it to anything less than 72 degrees puts frost on the ol' nuggets. ;)

2023 trd orp. Absolute joke. 50k and this by far is the worst ac ive ever experienced. What a big FN mistake. Duh.. Front passengers are fine but anyone in the rear forget it. Kids are burning up back there.. Only has vents with no independent fan. Extreme weak air flow. Wth now... Az heat btw

I’m not an engineer but when I had my sister ride in the back seat the other day (HOT and sunny) I asked how the A/C was and she said fine. I had it cranked up from the front because I knew that lil vent was more for show. One of the reasons I wanted my 4Runner is it has a tried and true HVAC system with very few sensors , etc… that can go wrong. I’m wondering if yours is charged or over charged, etc….

    Mall crawling kit.
Color of your 4Runner will also make a lot of difference. White one would be much easier to cool than black one.

It was at the Toyota dealership all day and the tech documented they ran it for about 15mins and the temp at the vent was around 42 degrees.
No way they did that in the full sun.. Granted my harbor freight laser temp shows 55. His has to be much better. In the 80s kids didn't seem to mind but out here it's over 100 on the regular. I thought the TRD pro would have dual air control. The TRD orp does not.
I use Max, recirc, top vents only, and run it before to try and cool the cab.

I have Xpel UV block on windows. I think that helps keep interior heat down.

The environmental cuckoo birds made it mandatory to use 1234yf instead of the 134a which leads to this complaint in many makes and models not just the lengthy 4Runner. Many experts say 1234yf doesn’t get nearly as cold as the 134a. This same idiots want to stop cow farts (methane) and want us eating bugs in future…not kidding research it. If the a/c systems are closed and being serviced by a professional it is insane to me that they are forcing this switch on us. If properly extracted and recharged this should be a non-issue. As you can tell this is a rather frustrating topic to me.

Coming from a 1991 Honda Civic with no AC, I'm not complaining too much with our 2024. This thing feels state of the art to me:D

This should really help IMO. Having a good tint all around is a game changer. I haven’t even been using a front windshield sunshade and mine hasn’t been too warm.

Sin4R,,,, Had the same issue with the freeze plates and AC in our sailboat during the
change over. It needed R-12 and we could no longer get it in the Florida.

Not saying you should, but we could get up to 20 lb bottles in the Bahamas. And while we lived in Baja Mexico we also had it available.

That said, our 2024 TRD ORP seems to work great on whatever new 'stuff' is in the AC. We only have a little over 200 miles on it, but it has been very hot here in Florida with high humidity. Time will tell....

I just wanted to provide everyone with an update. It was 91F outside, low humidity as I live in a desert environment, and I had my full set of window shades installed. Started the car, turned A/C and fan speed to Max, set to fresh air, removed the window shades and started driving about 2.5 mins later. A/C was already blowing ice cold by the time I started driving so I set air to recirculate. By 8 mins I had turned the fan speed down one, a few minutes later I turned it down again, and by 30 mins I had the fan speed down to setting 3 and had turned the A/C down from max a few notches.

Not the best A/C system I have ever seen in the car but its acceptable with a few caveats.

I only use XPEL PPF. I threw the factory stuff to the trash.

The AC in my off road premium is ice cold in Austin, TX humid and extremely warm summers. Also cools off the car very quickly.

I know having the TRD Pro that the dual climate control, etc… is different but the basic HVAC should be the same. That said.. I leave mine on auto (temp 73-74) and have never had to hit the recirculation button. I do have a good tint and I always keep the moonroof shade closed. The only times I can ever remember questioning my A/C were the initial use every Spring on my first hot day which went away after about 3 minutes of use.

Tint/UV block on windows will help improve the cooling for sure. Only thing it will hurt is your wallet

Full disclosure, today is very hot and extremely humid and with all this A/C talk I happened to look down and sure enough the recirculation light was lit. I did not realize that the “Auto” function also had the ability to turn this on and off. (It makes sense now that I think about it). So, I stand corrected. Although I have never hit the “recirc” button; I have been using it thru the use of the “Auto” function.

I have a 2020 with 70k miles, I haven't had the ac serviced , it's alight if the outdoor temperature is in the 80s. But when it's 90°or hotter it honestly sucks. I have to have it on full to even make a difference. Then it won't get the cabin cooler then 75°. Its been this way since new though. I had a tacoma before this, and maybe it's cause the cabin is smaller but I'd freeze my nuts in the tacoma.

I actually have am appointment to get the roof wrapped white(I heard it'll make a difference) my 4runner is mgm in color and factory tint .
