Is there an easy way to turn off the seatbelt alarm? Before you start, I understand the importance of seatbelts and always use mine, however my German Shepherd sits in the front seat and as much as I've argued with her, she refuses to wear a seatbelt, so I have to deal with the alarm going off every time we start up, or every time I Stop and then put it in gear to start back up. I have googled how to turn this off, but it seems more complicated than disarming a bomb. There's got to be an easy way.

Carista, an ODB scan tool with feature programming.

It used to be around $30 with a trail period that turns in to a subscription service.

Many people, myself included, set up the list of custom features in the first couple of weeks and let the trial expire.

Another option is to pay the dealer significantly more than that. Print out the list of programmable features with your choices.

This writeup is a good summary: https://trail4runner.com/2018/08/16/carista-for-5th-gen-4runner/

I have to put into question the logic of someone allowing their dog to sit in the front seat. In the event of an accident, that dog is going to be seriously injured or killed. I wouldn't want that for my dog. The great thing about 4Runners is the fantastic rear cargo area. It can be blocked off to keep Fido from flying around the cabin, and it's got the great feature of the back glass being able to go down, which all dogs love! Also, you wouldn't have to be questioning how to disable the seatbelt alarm.

In just a few posts, we have it all covered.

Buy this programmer, pay the stealership, disassemble your seatbelts and install this $5 part from Amazon, find someone who already has a programmer, don't do it you're gonna kill your dog.

    :D

The logic is my dogs are my buddies, not pieces of cargo. We play, run errands, chase critters and hang our hands/paws out the window. The odds of getting in a bad wreck are minuscule. I've driven since 1975 and have never had more than a fender-bender, and very few of them. The dogs ride up front.

Dogs are safer in the rear cargo area than they are in the front seat? Genuinely curious. I would have guessed the opposite.

    +1 for the carista tool.

It lets you easily deactivate multiple warning chimes (including the seatbelt) and change multiple settings that are difficult or even impossible to change otherwise.

I finally got around to installing mine and really like the ability to roll down my windows with the smart key! Gotta appreciate the small things right? lol

Built a deck out of scrap plywood. Medium size dog, large dog probably won’t fit…
Also, provides a great location to mount electronics and storage underneath in foot well.
Off road she’s frees to roam, prefers to be outside chasing on rough sections.
On road she wears a harness connected to the seat belt.

Would you ride in that thing? A dog, any dog, and especially the dog you own, deserves better. No way in hell would my dog ride in a hitch crate.

May have been said before (didn't read the whole thread) but after a little while of being annoying it gives up. I found out after a home depot run with heavy shit in the passenger seat.

Starts with occasional chimes as a warning and then gets pissed and chimes for like 30 seconds. After that it taps out like a sissy boy in a UFC fight
