So I did a lift with the Bilstein 5100, using the 1.75 perch and 1" cornfed spacers for the rear. Since then, if I crank my wheel all the way to the right, and i'm in reverse, I get a grinding noise. However, if I'm moving forward with the wheel cranked to the right, no grinding.

Thought this was just a rubbing issue but don't see anything obvious and not sure how it could be anyway if going forward doesn't produce the noise? Wheels are stock.

    Thoughts?

    Oooh look, another mod.....

The exact same thing happens to me, except I don't have a lift or after market shocks. The only thing I changed was my tires. I ditched the OEM's and slapped Falken Wildpeaks on my ride. Same size as stock, I didn't go up in size, but I still hear rubbing when I reverse at full lock.

I think this is something that happens to everyone. I just ignore it and try not to reverse all the way to the right.

Noooo lol. This wasnt happening at all prior to the lift.

One other thing to add is that is seems to only be coming from the driver side.

Did you check if your tires rub? I had the same exact issue. The resolution was cutting (not removing) my mud flaps. I tried heat but it didn't work for me

Very common (for rubbing issues) to hear that it only happens at full lock in reverse. I don't remember reading where it rubs, but you could use some chalk or paint to see where it's happening. Maybe a quick fix with a heat gun - re-molding a mudflap or something.

Mine only comes from the drivers side. Again, no lift, no larger tires, etc..

Yeah I had it fully turned to the right, crawled underneath and nothing stood out as an obvious touching point. Gonna try again though, seems rubbing is the consensus.

It's tire rub, and it doesn't matter if you've got "stock-sized" tires. The 4Runner comes with the largest tires that fit in the wheel opening, and even stock-sized tires rub at full lock in reverse on some vehicles. If you turn the wheels all the way right or left and get out and look at how close they are to the mud flap and front bumper you'll see there is very little clearance.

Are you sure it is a rubbing and not the sway bar or link hitting the drivers front coil spring? Mine made noise until I added sway bar drop spacer. I get no tire rub. Just a thought for something else to check.

Ok, I fingered it out. So I drove it up and down my driveway and could hear it, was definitely rubbing like most of you said. Before I couldn't see where it was in my garage, but on the driveway, it was obvious it was rubbing on the fender cover plastic, right near the edge (luckily not the bumper itself). Now, why it only does this in reverse, not sure. Anyway, I broke out the dremel and went to work. Took out a good chunk of the plastic and bingo, no more rubbing. Cut isnt noticable at all unless you're looking for it. Thanks all!
