I bought the wrong ones, so they are not oem, but that is just the picture not showing how it actually is. Its pretty dim like the stock ones

Ehhh that thing can’t really be trusted. If it’s reading 22.5 it’s more like 20.. it’s decent on the hwy but it’s 16-17 around town so it’s about avg

Decided to make my 04 4Runner a tad more modern. Next to clean the 4Runner from the recent rains.

Installed a JVC (cheapo) CarPlay capable radio with steering wheel control interface.
    An Amazon cheapo rearview camera.
While mounting the camera, decided to truck line the trim thingy as it had some sun damage.

Installed new wheel bearing/hub assemblies & new pads & rotors on the front. Passenger side bearing was bad, driver side was still OK but now it is new. Do you guys/gals "bed" your new pads?

My last brake change I had a shop do. I did not bed the brakes and they’ve been working great for the past 5k or so. I asked the guy if I needed to and he just said no. Don’t know if that means certain brands require it or not. I don’t believe he used OEM pads from what I recall.

I did it on the Taco the last time. Hard to find a road with no traffic around here now. Not as bad as San Diego I am sure but still harder than it used to be.

Depends on the manufacturer's recommendation. For example, I used to have PowerStop and they specifically say to bed them.

Yeah that's the brand I put in. 5 times aggressive braking from 40 to 10 mph. Then 5 more from 30 to 5 mph. All in "quick succession without letting the brakes cool or coming to a complete stop". That' gonna be tricky.

Just did this key fob upgrade:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3RRSyGx4Dc

    Used these key fobs:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089VSQVXK?ref=product_details

Hardest part of the job was getting the key fob back together, since I had to remove the physical key to fit in the cutting machine at the hardware store. Getting the spring wound correctly for reassembly was a little bit of a pain at first, but not bad.

Kinda wished I'd taken my wife's 5th-gen 4Runner to the hardware store. I took my Tundra instead, but it could have been a 3 generation unintentional meetup...

Just installed this on my ‘07. Turns the typically useless tissue box holder in the console lid into storage space for less than $25. Attaches with 3M tape. They may make them for other gens too, not sure.

I built a box. Spare sits on top. I simply screwed the old cargo mat onto the top of the wood for carpeting (mat is 20 years old and beat)

Installed some FJ cruiser mevotech SMS81081 rear coils today. They have pictures of front springs for this part number on rockauto (but lists them as for the rear), so I took a gamble. They were correct and for the rear though and they leveled things out nicely or it has a little bit of rake now. They were $62 shipped for a new pair and have the same 81081 part number as the Moogs, but for half the price roughly. Ride quality is unchanged and as of right now they gave me about 1” of lift. I expect them to settle a little though.

Added a switch to the hatch allowing it to be opened from the inside and replaced the original outside switch (the one that becomes gooey over time) with a new one. Followed @J.A.’s excellent writeup.

I cleaned up under the hatch garnish (just a thing I do) and found the inside of the license plate light lenses to be way dirtier than the outside.

I need to remove that whole license plate light harness. One of my lights doesn’t work and it’s not the bulb, if I jiggle the wires it will sometimes work. I already bought the whole harness just need to find time to replace it. But I agree, when messing with it I also noticed the insides of the lenses were super dirty.

Short rant...I`ve spent the last two days dropping my gas tank so I can replace the fuel pump on my `03 because they didn`t think it was necessary to place a cover DIRECTLY over the pump. C`mon Toyota. . What a PIA !!! After 21 years nothing wanted to let go easy. And the forward bolt on the right side, that`s aimed at the driveshaft ? C`mon Toyota. Rant over.

Changed the oil and rotated tires with my son this evening after work on the 07.
Noticed the right cv axle boot is busted. Looks pretty fresh. Time to repair/replace.

So does anyone know the secret to disconnecting the vent line from the top of the gas tank ? I can`t turn it, twist it, push it in, squeeze the tabs...nuthin`. I can`t pull the tank out from under the runner and clean it20240603_162539.jpg `till I can disconnect that hose.

I worked on an FJ cruiser recently and if I remember correctly, I disconnected the other end of it as I had trouble as well. I think the other end had a hose clamp on it in my case

edit: I just ran out and checked and it’s the same on the 4Runner

I do 99% of my own work. Dropping the gas tank is in the 1% I will (and did) pay a shop to do.

Nice job! But I’m still glad I paid a shop. Especially b/c the fuel pump I bought turned out to be missing an o-ring. They had to drop the tank again b/c it wouldn’t hold pressure. Not sure if they left it off or the kit was light but I could just envision myself trying to figure that out and fix it.

Yeah Blue, So far it`s been a PAIN !! I almost wish I would`ve paid a shop to do it but I didn`t want to spend $1000 on the job...altho it would be done by now and I could focus on my other project...my `03 Road King.

I don't know what you're doing, but I paid $323.11 to have my fuel pump/sending unit replaced at a shop (not including parts - i supplied my own). Not terrible, but maybe they didn't have to fully drop the tank.
