So I have been looking really hard but with relatively no luck. I am looking for a rear bumper with a passenger swing arm that would allow me to tote a cooler. I've got a ladder on the left side, and I don't need a tire carrier, but a place to keep a cooler outside the vehicle that my kids could reach, would be amazing, but I have found nothing with all of my google searches. Anyone have any ideas?

Been looking for same thing with no luck. Best idea I have been able to come up with is either (1) make one which involves a bunch of fabrication that I am not looking forward to or (2) get a bike rack with a swing out and adapt it to be able to mount the cooler rack to. This involves some fab work but much less.

How about a simple cargo hitch rack? I use one and am happy with it. upload_2024-5-28_7-28-13.jpg

I use mine with a dual adapter so that I can carry rack and still pull my trailer or use it as recovery point.

Please don’t use this as a recovery point, especially with a snap rope/strap

So that was the same type? You are lacking a lot of details on your response? The picture you have may of been a cheap cast steel hitch?????What does the other piece that broke off look like? A few more facts would be helpful to go with your statement. Using the doubler would work for simple pull without a problem. For a serious hard pull anyone with a brain would remove doubler and plug in direct with shackle only. :burnrubber:

Think an obvious difference is the hollow square tubing VS solid, possibly rated block

one “hitch” is meant, at least primarily, for toting a bike rack or basket per say in conjunction with something else kinda rinkadink

You can see the bottom hitch opening has the single gusset, probably for the heavier duty “deal”

N like you said, they are not direct
    …In the slightest

youd also have to add ANOTHER block into them which then goes into actual hitch…lot of components

In any recovery with that, I’d imagine it might flirt with sticking your arm out the window at high speed…gonna move, shift, bend, etc

    I dunno
    Could work?

There's something very odd going on in this picture. I worked in structural design for 40 years and the forces to pull a TS2x2 in two pieced like that is phenomenal. To back that up, the failure would have been at the weakest point which is where the holes were drilled for the hitch pin. But the deformity shown in the lower left part suggest it was an angular pull that caused the fail. Most likely some cheap import made from poor grade steel.

Yep, looks like a side pull with a tow strap (not recovery/kinetic rope). That tore.

Here is the article the picture came from. Again, please don’t use it as a recovery point.

But do as you may, but don’t encourage others to use it as a recovery point.

Well, there it is then, the drop hitch acts as a side pull (not straight), and a non-kinetic tow rope.

note that I used hitch haul bars (referred to as ZBars) to raise racks up to lessen affect on approach and departure angles

Same but I want mine for carrying gas outside the vehicle (and not on the roof)...and without reducing departure angle so the hitch basket does not work for me...

this might work for you cooler guys: https://yakima.com/products/exo-swingbase

now I gotta wonder if this might work for me: https://yakima.com/products/exo-topshelf (and remove the lower arms)
