    Looking for some advice on steel rear bumper options. I don't want to cut the cross member or lose the receiver hitch. This excludes most that I have seen. I don't want a dedicated swing out but like the option of modular like victory has.

    Am I looking for a unicorn that doesn't exist? Not sure if I just keep fixing the plastic cover when it takes a hit. Thanks for any input.

    I'm torn what rear to do as well, because I want to keep my backup/rear cross sensors active. Not because I need them, because I don't like removing features I paid for on my Pro.

    I'd love to checkout the the Victory 4x4 option with no swingout attached...

    Keeping the spare tire in the stock location is intriguing if you're sticking with 33s... It would add some armor in place of the rear bumper...
    Plus they sell radar relocation brackets to keep cross traffic detection.

    The Nyguyen LoPro may be the ticket. I bought mine in the raw and painted it to match. You can have it powder coated by them. Cutting the rear hatch corner area is a bit of a challenge. Takes a bit of brainwork and some compromise to get the fit or the look you can live with. (see pic below) You will also have a gaping hole behind the rear mudflaps that will need to be addressed to keep the winter slop out. I used a length of conveyor belt to cover it up, then used a 2nd body mount nut to secure it. The x-member has 3 holes from the factory. We hogged 'em out and installed marker lights. With a bit of ingenuity, I was able to keep the factory mudflaps, too. It's s'possed to be one of the highest clearance bumpers on the market. Lots of options. Ladders gerry can holders, swingouts, etc. With the it being exposed, I welded 2 recover points at the butt-end of the frame. You can see those in the pics.

    Whenever I hit the trails, the hitch comes off and the spare goes on the roof. It's only 6 bolts. Best guess is I gain about 4" without the hitch.

    I have a nguyenworks and seen the outgear, the swings is much beefier, I have some tire wiggle on trails but nothing that is concerning that it will fall off.

    If I was to do it again I'd pick outgear but I still love my nguyenworks, I see they are allowing upgrade to the e3 machines billet latches which is common failure and I'm starting to see some issues with my latch and its only been a year.

    If you wanted they have a secret menu that you can add things such as backup camera relocate and hitch (its not rated) but they beef it up adding cross member supports.

    I really like the stuff 80% has. That swing out is fucking awesome. And if you know and welder or have all the tools to do it yourself, its reasonably priced. I think all the other companies offering bumpers are overpriced plus the lead time.

    For sure I wish I had a space to actually do it, unfortunately in a condo here and can barely change my brakes without someone giving dirty looks.

    I really like the Victory bumper too. Living in the rust belt I think I'd ditch the gray accent pieces. Plus it would match my Victory Blitz front bumper ;)

    Nice. I'm glad that works for you but it wouldn't work for me.
    Mainly putting 85+ pounds on my roof when I go wheeling sounds like a disaster. The 4Runner is already a tippy rig. I want to keep that weight as low as possible (especially when wheeling.)

    No ones mentioned it so I guess I will. C4's rear bumper is no cut. Meaning you can keep your cross member. Biggest cons I see are cost and weight with this setup.

    I really like the c4. Wish they had an option that was not swingout required. I hear nothing but solid reviews about c4.

    I think the reason they don't is the spare would hang so low relative to the bumper.
    So If your investing in a rear bumper for better clearance it would be self defeating to not relocate the spare.

    A good visual reference when comparing all these is the trailer electrical hookup. You can see how low that hangs relative to these bumper options. Imagine the spare 3-4" below that.

    I believe @Yotaholic has the Ironman bumper. Maybe he can chime in about the install and show some pictures of his setup?
    I think he runs a swingout as well but still would be worth getting his opinion on the bumper.

    I might just pickup a spare bumper and high clearance cut it similar to White_Buffalo_4R
    He's a trail guide at Merus. His rig is a very capable machine.

    Lol, im not into the overlanding stuff. But if you put any kind of weight on to the top of your lifted 4runner your just asking for it (imo)....

    And why would you put your heavy spare on the roof?

    I'd like to keep the weight down low too, but I'd like my spare to be usable should I need it. There are plenty of folks that use a roof top tent. Those weigh in at 170-ish lbs. Having the spare on the roof doesn't seem to be much of an issue. I suppose it could be in an extreme situation.

    So it doesn't go flat if it gets smashed on a rock. In the factory location, the spare won't allow max departure angle.

    Top of my bumper list is the Dissent Offroad Modular Rear Bumper. It's one of the lightest full width steel bumpers out there at 125 lbs and will be in the working range of just about any modest upgraded suspension system. It comes in three variants to the hitch scheme, no hitch (you unbolt the factory receiver), factory hitch and High Clearance (where you have to do some cutting and welding (but any decent metal fab shop can do that for a reasonable cost.) Being modular you can add on swingarms at a later time.

    Personally, I would never put a spare up on the roof. My 265 70R17s wheel/tire setup weighs in nearly 70lbs (the tire weighs 44lbs and the TRD Pro rims another 25lbs!) I can lift it but try unloading a full spare while it's up on a roof rack...a huge PITA even if you have help. Seriously consider a swing arm mounted spare.

    Ditto C4. You’d be hard pressed to find a better bumper. But C4 installs are what you’d call reversible either.

    Edit: As far as modularity goes I could add 80%'s swingout, but for now keeping the 34" spare in the factory location seems to work well

    I'm interested in getting a rear bumper with the option to carry 2 - 34/35" tire on swingouts. Has anyone seen or done this to their 4Runner. I'd like to have one full size spare for the 4Runner and the option to store another tire for chasing down in Baja. I have 34" tires and the cars I chase after use 35" tires. I have a Yakima sky box on the roof for camping and space for bins up top for everything else, but I can't squeeze a 35" tire up top with the skybox.

    I just got back from a race down in Ensenada and we had to store the race spare inside the cab, which is not ideal. I'm sure I can design one myself or piecemeal it (coastal offroad and 80% are at the top of options right now), but looking to see if there are any pictures of this current setup.

    Nothing imminent, but would like to start brainstorming options.
