    Hi guys,

This is with a terrible pun I introduce myself on this fine forum.

I am currently looking for a 3rd gen 4Runner, in a bit of a rush as I'm planning a half-year long trip across the Americas. I'll talk about it more once I find my ride.

I attached a few pictures from a car I saw recently: do you think I should stay away? Rust is a topic I'm definitely not an expert with, and I was wondering what you guys would think of buying that one?

note: this is in Canada, where rust is our friend forever.

    Thanks!

What to do? Trade it in for a 5th gen and then fluid film the 5th gen on a yearly basis so that doesn't happen again. I say trade it now because I honestly think that rust has gotten to the point where it probably can't be remedied. An if you wait, it might get to the point where you would just have to scrap the truck. Or, the rust isn't as bad as it looks in the pics and you could just forget anything I said just now. :drunk:

Ouch... no 5th gen for me though, I definitely prefer to stick to a 3rd ;) (I'd love an older one too but they're even harder to come by in good shape)

    thanks!

Ospho… google it, buy it, apply it... drive it. I used to use it religiously on my old 4x4 builds. It completely neutralizes the rust, coats it, and turns it black. Basically, it stops rust in it's tracks and prevents any further damage. It's amazing stuff, and best part is you don't need to prep anything (no sanding or applying primer, blah blah). It's ready to coat with paint if you wanted too after it dries and sets. My only recommendation is to completely cover yourself from any vapors or chemical back spray. Of course something this strong is not going to be good for your lungs, tissue, or cement.

If I had a couple gallons, I'd gladly put it in a pesticide pump sprayer and go to town on your underbody just to see how it looked after. You used to be able to buy it from any autopart stores when it started disappearing and coming with other additives (weaker), it also came about under popular brands under different names... but it was the same derivative. Anyway, definitely go find it and give it a try, it's worth it if you want to stop the rust!

Google it, youtube it for personal results and you'll see...

Thanks, although I'm more looking for advice on buying it or not. I edited my original post as my question was not clear at all.
