New fuel pump and sleeve

    Hello

    I replaced the fuel pump and filter sleeve, now the fuel gauge is maxed. I know there is no more than 1/4 tank of gas.

    How can I reset the gauge?

    1997 3.4L Limited

    Did the gauge work fine before the replacement? I am not aware of any type of gauge/cluster reset

    If so, Do you think you possibly bent the fuel level sending unit. Sounds like the rheostat it is stuck at the extreme end of the spectrum.

    The gauge was fine b4 replacement of the fuel pump

    I was pretty careful with the sending unit

    I'll pop the cover above the tank, unplug the sending unit, wait a bit, then plug it back in. Wait how long you think?

    If no joy there, I'll undo the battery terminals.........wait a bit, then reattach. Wait how long here too?

    Grabbing at straws here.......

    Honestly, sounds like something is backwards or just broken. It's a known issue that those senders go bad after about 20 years. I'd pull the tank and replace it. Also do all the gaskets and everything else connected to the tank.

    Regardless, here are steps to try a re-calibration:
    1. Recalibrate fuel gauge:
    Step 1. With the ignition switch in the OFF position, press and hold the trip reset button.
    Step 2. Continue pressing the trip reset button while turning the ignition switch to the ON
    position.
    Step 3. Within 5 seconds of turning the ignition switch ON, release the trip switch, press the
    trip switch 3 times, and on the third press hold the switch for 5 seconds. The buzzer
    will sound for 1 second at 800 HZ.
    Step 4.After the buzzer stops, release the trip switch.
    Step 5. Press the trip switch one more time and hold for 5 seconds. Once more, the buzzer
    will sound for 1 second at 800 HZ.
    Step 6.The calibration process is completed.
    NOTE:
    If in the operation of step 6, the buzzer sounds higher than that of step 5, turn the
    ignition switch to OFF position and repeat the setting procedure from step 2.
