Might be pulling the trigger on a 2023 or new 2024 Limited and Im wondering about mods.

one im looking at has auto running boards that go up and down when opening the door. Is it difficult or expensive to have this removed and replaced with regular Trail Running boards?

I imagine TRD Pro wheels and AT tires in size 255/75/17 or 275/70/17 should fit without rub?

Do they make blackout decal to cover some of the chrome?

The front bumper is low. Is it difficult to trim some of it away or do they make good aftermarket front bumpers for limited that helps clearance?

to replace with aftermarket shocks the XREAS has to go, how complicated and expensive is it to delete the XREAS?

    any other good mod suggestions

    Oooh look, another mod.....

We need the Limited experts to chime in and give you great modding advice! @kmeeg & @Harringbr99

The running boards can be removed kind of easily.
You can fit 275's without rubbing.
They do make black out kits to cover up the chrome.
Keep the XReas until it goes bad.
Keep the bumper, replacing it can be very very costly.

The automatic running boards have a light on the dashboard to let the driver know is they are not retracted. If they are removed I think that light will illuminate and might be a nuisance to the driver.
Regular Trail Running boards will not fit as the connecting arms are shorter. You need Limited/ TRD Sport specific running boards with longer arms.
If ever my automatic running boards fail I have no clue how much it would cost to repair or replace. This is the only time I think I skipped Automatic running boards but rest of the time I love the look of the Limited not having running boards. I don't have that feeling with other trims like SR5 / TRD ORP / TRD PRO.

I think the safest best is 265/70R17. 255/75R17 most likely fit too.
I have tried 275/70/17 Load E on TRD Offroad wheels on 4Runner TRD Offroad with stock suspension, even though it cleared the ride was rough.
Due to the wheel offset 275/70/17 on TRD Pro wheels might rub but not with TRD Offroad wheels.
Right now I have 285/70R17 SL tires on TRD Offroad wheels with a little lift and I only needed to push the fender liner forward. I don't know without lift if they fit or not.

I looked to replace the bumpers with SR5/TRD bumper but looks like way more work needed. Even need to drill for parking sensors. No other trims have parking sensors. Even worse if you try to change rocker panels as rear wheel arch is different and requires fender arch replacement that would require painting and whole lot work.

I've seen some but no where near the good finish to my eyes compared to a Limited Nightshade finish on chrome parts.
Since Limited Nightshade is no more available try looking at Silver Limiteds, the chrome pieces kinda match and you can use TRD Offroad wheels with 265/70R17 or 255/75/R17.

Since XREAS is just a fancy shock absorber system connecting to each other it can be removed without any problem. No dash lights, no nothing when XREAS no more available. When a shop installed a lift for my Limited they just charged extra 1 hour to fully remove the shocks and lines going along the frame. Sure one can just remove the shock and replace with a new set of 4shocks and leave the lines. I bet no one owning a 4Runner would do such a cheap thing.
Replacing XREAS with another is an interesting question as to my taste I never experience onroad comfort with any aftermarket suspension I've had. But It would be a personal preference as I see many prefer little firm suspension over soft factory shocks.

    Just my thoughts...:)
