The clutch on my 4runner AC Compressor is trying to engage, but slipping. When AC is turned on, I can see minor sparks and then the AC goes off.

without removing freon lines from compressor, how do I figure out if the problem is with the clutch (gap or worn out) or if the AC compressor is siezed?

If compressor is siezed, i am planning to replace compressor. Otherwise, just replace the clutch.

    Pls advise.

Spin the center section by hand. It will have some resistance but it should move.

appreciated - thank u. from looking it from 4ft away, the center section seems covered by the clutch plate and is the clutch plate itself.

Is it possible to access it from above in engine compartment? I will remove skid plate and access it from underneath. (will disconnect battery before putting my hands anywhere in that area).

What is the way to easily access the compressor to remove it (after evacuating)? Each car model seems different.

From below or from driver side wheel? There seems to be hurdles( tubes) in the middle from driver side wheel.

I checked the clutch. The middle is part of clutch and it will not move.

I had previously posted that I thought middle was separate, but it isn't. I verified by using video camera.
