Got a spare chipped key today from Ace Hardware for $100. Also bought a non-chipped key to hide under the exterior of the truck just to gain access into the truck.

I plan to hide the extra chipped key somewhere in the interior. My son is going off to college in the fall and I don't want to drive 4 hours away if he loses his keys.

I've got to trim my front bumper a little bit. Any pointers? Kinda nervous to carve on the bumper.

I kind of did a hack job on mine. It's not really obvious unless you're looking in the fender well though.

Anyone know if 285s, a 2.5 lift, and OEM TRD wheels fit without modification or rub? Hoping to do as little modification as possible.

It’s been said in many posts, but a lift does not help with rubbing. Think of what happens when you’re turning into a steep driveway: your suspension compresses.

With 285s you will 100% rub. A lot of people do body mount chops which i would never do.

With 275s you will at least rub the splash guard.

With stock, 265s, even Toyota has a support article for trimming the bumper when they install TRD wheels with all terrain tires at the port.

I’m on stock size with a 2” lift and Wildpeak AT4/W and things look like they could rub but they don’t, but it’s close. So I don’t know how people are going bigger size to be honest. But car drives great on 265s and I’ve done some intense rock crawling on it.

Secured the unobtainium oem black lug nuts today ... will go on later

***Edit *** I'm wondering now though if they are oem ... the guy just removed them from his 4Runner because his new aftermarket wheels required different lugs nuts and these were installed from Toyota originally ... but I believe the Toyota Oem are silver on the bottom half, can anyone confirm? Either way, they look like great quality and I paid $30 for them so I can't complain. Just not sure if they are actually oem and Toyota may be using others currently as all dealers I've called are backordered on black lugs and have no idea when they'll get more.

Those lug nuts are what should come standard on the black TRD wheels, mine looked a ton better as soon as I replaced the regular chromed ones.

100% At the dealership the other day all of the 4Runners with black rims had chrome lugs because of the backorder.

I appreciate the detailed response. I have read posts here about larger tires, lifts, offset, etc., and there will always be conflicting information but I figured I would ask. I agree, I do not want to cut body mounts just to fit larger tires. 265s are more than enough for what I do. 275/285 would be purely aesthetic at this point.

i have a 2” lift with 285/70/17 Falken WPs on OEM Trail rims, all mud flaps on, no trimming, no rubbing and no BMC.

Do you have UCAs and anything special done on the alignment? Would be nice to see photos at full lock.

Do you go to the trails, rock crawling or anything like that? That’s where you’ll most likely see issues.

    EDIT: got some pics.

Got ceramic tint installed (wife has been wanting to have it done for a while, so happy Mother's Day...). I'll take some pics and post later but at the moment some members of the family are napping a few feet from me and I don't want to wake them up.

Stock UCA, 2” lift and positive caster? Haven’t seen anyone be able to achieve that with that setup. Three alignment shops and one of the best in Austin and they couldn’t get there. Curious and curiouser.

Changed oil, air filter, and cabin air filter. Lubed propeller shafts. I was getting ready to rotate the tires when it started raining, so I'll do that in a couple days.

Only with the rotate tires! Wanted to stop and rotate tommorow but decided I was already dirty and sweaty so went ahead and do it! Always amazes me the torque on the aluminum wheels is 76ft/lbs
