Hey everyone how’s it going. I have a 1996 Toyota hilux surf I brought back from Okinawa during my tour there. I look forward to learning what 4 runner parts I can throw at it. I can’t wait to see what I can find here. This truck will be my businesses first build seeing as it is my own I don’t have to worry about messing anything up on someone else’s car. IMG_0312.jpg

    Oooh look, another mod.....

Welcome aboard! Nice rig. I think most 3rd Gen 4Runner parts/mods/accessories will fit. That's basically what yours is.

So I just got my rig back from the Toyota dealer a few hours ago with a laundry list of parts to get. My biggest concern is what selection on rock auto I need to use as seen in the attached photo. This has been difficult for me seeing as I am not in Japan any more with an abundance of scrapped surfs

Post a picture of your engine so we can see which one you have. I've seen some of these imports with the 3 liter diesel. The US versions mostly were equipped with the 3.4 V6 gasoline.

    I don’t have a pic. It’s the 1kzte 3.0 liter.

I don't think that 3.0 liter listed on the rock auto site is meant for the 1kzte. We were never offered a diesel in the US, so it's the gasoline 3.0.
Anything diesel engine related won't be listed under the 4Runner tab.
I've used this international supplier before for OEM parts.

Yes you are a correct. More so nothing Japan kept from us is on. Rock auto however I am not looking for diesel parts. From my understanding the hilux surf and 4 runner are legos everywhere else except the engine bay. I believe i have the answer I was looking for last night though.

Yes Sir, most of the other components would be the same as a 3.4 liter V6 4Runner. Axle, suspension, body parts, interior, etc.
Small variations possibly, but the Parts Souq site may help with cross-referenced parts research.

This is my buddies 97' 3L diesel. He's a 3rd gen guy through and through. He has a lot with a dozen or more 3rd gen parts trucks.

Unfortunately, I only talk to him a few times a year. We live 2hrs away.
This is his shop. Looks like he has some cattle now. Hmmm steaks and Toyota parts? Maybe he's on to something. His name is Morgan.
