    Howdy, group--I'm new here. I don't own a 4Runner--yet.

I found a used one near me that checks most of my boxes--'22 OR Premium with 20k miles, pristine condition, in a color I like.

But the truck has what appears to be a Pro's Fox suspension. Should I be concerned? My worries are (1) if the suspension was a takeoff from a Pro, who knows how many miles are on it? And (2) will this affect the remainder of the factory warranty?

I can't ask the prior owner because this is on a Carmax lot.

I would prefer KDSS, but those seem extremely rare in these parts (DFW).

Anyway, I'd appreciate thoughts on whether the suspension is cause for concern.

What’s the selling price? In my experience, Carmax prices are usually high. If the price is anywhere close to a brand new one, I’d just buy new.

I wouldn’t take a chance on a modified suspension that may or may not have a lot of miles on it. Not to mention what else could have been done wrong in the process of changing the suspension. But that’s just me.

The PRO suspension wouldn't worry me... Yeah you don't know how many miles are on it so it is a judgement call on what it looks like etc. but give it a shake and a test drive listening and feeling for any issues. I could be wrong but I think that 2019 was when they started using those so they aren't to old. We lifted ours and sold our stock suspension with 5k miles on it (which is what a lot of people do). As for KDSS. Depending on if you plan on lifting whatever you get and how much, you may be better without it. We have it and it works well for what we do with a 2 and 1/2-in lift but that is about the max without bigger modifications. Also when it goes out we're just going to remove it due to the cost to replace it when there's an issue. Love it on the road, so-so off road. KDSS also limits some of your protection and suspension choices. Food for thought

I agree it would be taking a chance. If it’s just the fox shocks, it’s not necessarily a problem. I’ve seen where people have modified with fox shocks, but then put top hat spacers on the front struts. This was a problem because it allowed the strut to overextend and eventually break a ball joint.

I agree with trying to get it minus a couple grand for new suspension. I’ll try what ever is possible to save. I wouldn’t fret over it.

Suspension mods should only void warranty for suspension related stuff, will not impact others like engine or electrical, etc. If they (the TRD Fox shocks) fail its not gonna cost you alot. And if you wand to replace them with same it should be available as its USA anyways. You can also replace with many other better options.

But KDSS is a whole different story. When they fail it will cost you ALOT. But hopefully aftermarket may have cheaper replacements. I know DrKDSS is looking into replacement KDSS parts. Stealerships will definitely drain your bank when KDSS start leaking. But repairs for things like KDSS lean may not cost alot as in Lexus world they already have a service bulletin for KDSS lean problems.
