    I bet he just mistook the gas pedal for the brake pedal and as the truck accelerated he slammed on the pedal thinking he would be braking but he floored it instead

    originally he said he got his foot stuck/caught on the pedals and that was the reason it accelerated and he was unable to stop. Lame excuse.
