I am currently using Thule cross bars to hold kayak carrier. I am purchasing a fish rod holder and need to also put a lockable storage box up there.

I am interested in seeing if anyone has had luck using any of the after market full racks to hold these items? Due to bad back and heavy kayak I prefer using hullavator, which comes down on the side. This makes it so much easier to load kayaks. I would prefer keeping that.

I remember in the main roof rack thread one member DIYing a solution that worked - I am just not sure what sort of support shoes/hardware is needed to achieve that. this is my current setup with kayak but I am using Thule bars which are insufficient if in need to keep more stuff there.

RCI is really good at returning inquiries as to the function of their products. They are very knowledgeable about Thule, Yakima, and other systems and how they integrate with their racks. I was able to give them a call, and they answered questions immediately and accurately about the sliders and rack I installed on my 2011.

I am told hullavator won't clip to their roof rack.

If that's the case it won't mount to any of that style rack. Can you post a pic of how it connects?

I don’t have it set up but can see if there’s a pic online. The channels in cross bars seem to be standard and Thule supports those. I heard from RCI that their roof rack should clip to hullavator.

I may remove my Pro rack. My 2 choices are Sherpa Needle or ARB rack.

Would the lockable box you’re considering actually fit with the kayak up there, or even with just the kayak mounts? I’ve got a big kayak, and there’s not much roof footprint left over once it’s up there.

With enough stainless nuts, bolts, and washers, you can mount just about anything to slotted aluminum bars.

Hey John, No I did not get a new rack. If I would go with one I probably go for the Sherpa short rack. I think the you tube video I watched on the ARB rack was the 61 inch install. I plan on going with the smooth top again if I remove the rack. I have no need for a roof rack. I have the delete kit just did not remove it yet.

Nope. No drilling. Direct bolt on. And, super solid. As an added bonus, I believe there is less wind noise than with the OEM rack. Very pleased with RCI.

Yes, as I've got it adjusted. There's a thick piece of weather stripping that sits between the paint and the fairing. The fairing is adjustable up and down. I've had it off a couple of times since I've owned the rack. There's no rubbing or paint damage. It's solid, and very quiet at highway speed. I've had the sunroof open at 75 mph, and it's very quiet. I was actually quite amazed.
