Blind faith in technology WILL sometimes get you killed! This stuff is not magic. It will never be perfect. Apply critical thought and pragmatism for a better life.

"Common sense" isn't very common either.

I personally don't trust any CC on any cars, or Self Driving Tesla!

I bought my 4Runner in spite of the driver assist technology, not because of it. I hate the adaptive cruise control. Even in its least sensitive setting, it's still too sensitive for my tastes. I know you can turn the adaptive feature off each time you use the cruise control by holding the button, but I wish there was a way to set the default setting to off.

Our Outback's adaptive cruise is SO much better than the 4runner's. Beeps when a car is in range, slows gradually, holds at a preset distance. Much more fluid and never once felt surprised by it. I cant even use the cruise in the 4runner anymore

Aside from not having an annoying beep, the ACC im my '21 TRD ORP acts the same as you describe in your Subaru.

I never found my 4R to be able to accelerate fast enough to cause any kind of issue when using the ACC

However, I just dig it when Im on the expressway and the ACC decides to SLAM on the brakes because someone changed lanes in front of me 200' ahead. Super cool, I felt like getting rear ended by an 18-wheeler today :nuclear:

Mine must be alittle touched then..
On the bright side, everybody drives like such buttholes on the highways here in Metro Detroit, I don't have much opportunity to use it anyways.

Shortly after buying my '23 last year I tried the cruise control. It was mostly useless. At home I RTM and discovered why it was useless to me.

No great loss. I live near the interstection of I-95 and I-64 so there's a bit of traffic most days. I haven't missed using it because I learned to drive - in D.C.- with the gas pedal by anticipating what was going on. Having the car slow and then go and then slow etc. was just irritating.

You know, the Interstates have curves on them too, at least around here and you never know which car in which lane the cruise system is reading. Oh well, all progress isn't useful. The old cruise works fine.

Same here, I drive my 23 the same way I drive my 98 Camry and don't use any of the assists. I even turn my head to check blindspots before changing lanes or backing up, pretty archaic, I know.
