Back window vent

Anyone try this window vent from autowerks (on 4runnerlifestyle)?

Will be sleeping in car camping this summer and looking for ventilation. Mesh in the holes would be great for keeping bugs out.

 

That is an answer in search of a question for sure.

You could only use that while stopped because you can't roll the rear window up or down with it installed while in motion... and what purpose does it provide while stopped? I guess with mesh you might keep bugs out... but I've really never had an issue with bugs coming in through the cracked back window.

It would only be while parked for sleeping at night. Take it off in morning.

 

I'm thinking this could result in problems, but hard to tell from pics. Does the glass roll up against this piece? Is it mounted to the glass or the channel? If so, could you end up accidentally resetting home position on the window once you roll it all the way up?

Works very well for me and I'm in Indiana where it's 99% humidity with zero air movement.

 

I’ve had one for 3 years works great drive with it installed all the time, just be sure to remove prior to dirt roads. It does slip into wdw seal/groove at top and has a channel for wdw at bottom. Has no effect on wdw rolling completely up when removed. One warning…the location of the rear window button sucks, dog has stepped on and rolled the window down a number of times. Fortunately, vent has stayed in place. I now have a thin piece of plastic bent over the switch to avoid that issue

 

So in your case, the wiper goes unused?

 

Correct. I feel the wiper is as bad as the switch location… plus, I don’t believe the wiper operates when installed due to car recognizing the wdw is ‘open’

My hi-tech solution to accidental wdw roll downs.

 

Is a bit pricey, but hoping its a buy once cry once situation. I like passive solutions. Don't have to worry about batteries, motors, plugs, etc…

Didn’t think about window damage, certainly just need to be careful when setting the window position and not going to tight

 

we use mesh bug screens that slide over the door from the top (universal fit, gf bought them for her subaru) and just leave the back door windows down however much we want.

 

Kind of like this? This is Luno. Never bought from them but nice tight fit.

I like both of these solutions.

 

If it's for car camping, a better solution to me is the luno mesh net
It's not permanant so perfect to set up only when wanted, and you can get a lot more airflow by opening the whole window or just cracking it open if it's cold out

Side note, i think the 3rd row makes it super easy to setup. Just had shoulder surgery so need to sleep inclined. Just put a foam wedge under seat. Add my vent screen and ill call it complete.

That's what I usually do, both rear side windows and moonroof (I found a universal one on Etsy a while ago). I've always been fine with this combination but 2 weeks ago I went camping in Payson and it was a little warm inside until 1am or so (it didnt help that we had 2 dogs with us) so I rolled the back window and it felt a lot nicer but then a bunch of insects started flying in.

 

Only benefit to rear window is the overhang to protect from rain.

 

I made my own but in full size to block sunlight and just mesh at the top for the crack i open the rear window and take it off when im driving (fits in the window frame). The first one i made i did in reflectix (Pic below) but needed a more rigid material so i went with corrugated sheets cut to size. I also did one with mesh on top for the rear passenger window to help with cross ventilation.

I haven't had that yet but if you try that rear window one out let me know how it turns out, maybe I'd get one just incase I ever have that happen as well. Thanks for sharing

 

I have the luna rear passenger door window screens l, which are nice. I can drive with those installed. I have the sunroof magnetic one and can’t drive with that one, but it is great otherwise. I could go with the magnetic rear window option. Not sure if you could drive with that attached. May catch in the wind.

I also tend to open the back gate since my feet stick out, so I have a small SUV tent that looks like a rear diaper for the truck (doesn’t touch the ground). Lets me have even more air and space with the hatch fully open. Also blocks the rain and such.

I use these in phases based on temp, rain, etc. try to get away with the minimum. I like the soft meshes more as I can carry all of these all the time since they roll up small.

the rigid option looks simple but too hard to store and only 1 way to use it. The mesh I can have the window open a little or a lot. Also can change whenever.

one feature I would like is a remote to roll windows without putting the key in and such. Change without getting out of my sleeping bag… and that is not needed.

 

They need a moonroof version of this, then heat could escape through the roof and come in through the back...
