How Much should I lift my 4runner?

I want to lift my 2014 sr5 4runner, I made a post a day or two ago about what lift I should get and I think I have decided on a Bilstein kit, with JBA UCAs. But I would love some insight on how much lift I should do, with the kit I can either do a 2", 2.5", or 3". I recently watched a Tinkers Adventure video that showed how a higher lift can take away flex. I was originally going to go with 3" because in my head bigger sounds better. But now I am a bit more unsure of which ride height I should go with. But if any of you have thoughts and/or experience with these different ride heights I would love to hear them.

You'll get all kinds of answers. I left mine stock, and I'll keep it that way until I can't get somewhere I wanted to.

 

Tires size, wheel offset, added weight, and what you're planning on doing should factor into your decision. Do you want it to sit level? I personally like 2 or 2.5 and would cut and weld if more clearance is needed. Check out this gallery for some ideas of different combinations. You'll have to navigate the spring options to see the lift heights, but they give good descriptions based on how much weight you will have.

If I could do it over I would buy an SR5 Premium, over Trail Edition w/ KDSS.
I lifted 3" front, 2" rear, Bilstein all four corners. OME springs, ICON coils. SPC UCA. Doing a 1" body lift too prolly next year.
But I want higher, still. Believe me, I really like and admire The Tinkerer but a lot of folks say a lot of stuff. You can safely do at least 3" no sweat. Do 3" bro, send it.
I think 6" is badass, but a clean 4" suspension lift would be my answer.

Depends on the terrain in your region. On my local trails, I'm usually clearance-limited, so more lift (like 3") is beneficial and worth the tradeoff in downtravel.

 

Chicks are all about the portals. OP will get laid on the daily if he gets portals. Dudes guna need a crow bar to pry them off

 

I will not deny that portals are pretty sick but I don't got 20,000 dollars laying around. Thanks for yalls ideas I think I will go with the 3".

 

Why stop at 3 inches? I'm going to lift mine 10 inches, install portals, then install 44 inch mud swamper tires. Because I want to look as cool as possible when I troll the Instagram and crawl at the fucking mall.

Oh, and I'm going to put every single aftermarket light on it. Ditch, Raptor, Fang lights, overhead light bar, grill light bar. I think I'll even put a light bar on my light bar!

 

For what portals cost it would be cheaper to just buy the chicks by the hour plus you don’t have to worry about them getting attached and sticking around just so they can admire your rig.

 

OP, TinkersAdventure has a lot of good information. If you want to do off roady/Overlanding and still want a sound daily driver, I wouldn't get too extreme. I suggest you avoud the exotic/expensive lift kits and go with something like the Eibach or Bilstien 2-2 1/2" kit and consider Dobinsons upper control arms that have 3 degrees of castor built in and are rebuildable (not necessary but makes it easier to do correct alignments. No need for a differential drop or panhard bar correction.

Don't try to get any tire poke with offset or spacers as it will only increase the arc of the wheels/tires causing additional rubbing.

 

Mall Crawler -> Leveling Kit $
Simple lift -> 2" Bilstein $$
Overlanding -> 2-3" OME $$
Hardcore OffRoading -> 2-3" Dobinsons Long Travel $$$

Nothing wrong with a simple leveling kit. Toyota's suspension is super soft and rides real smooth.
I chose OME because I carry a lot of gear (my wife is not a minimalist) and needed ground clearance.

People (me included) will be quick to offer opinions. But there is a lot of free bad advice out there. Try to decide what you want to do with the truck first. Then research products with those goals in mind.

2” lift Bilstein 6112 w/600 lb coils front, 1.5” lift Eibach T13 coils rear, Bilstein 5100 rear shocks, 285/70/17 Falken WP AT3, Energy Suspension front bumpstops, Durobumps 4.25” rear

My TRD Pro only has about 4000 miles on it, and I want to get the use out of what I paid for, but I'm looking at the Westcott Fox TRD Pro Lift Kit. I still don't know enough about stuff like this to know if that's a bad idea or not. So we'll see. The results from other threads look promising, especially for the price tag.

Hopefully that won't be a problem when doing some decent offroading in Uwharrie.

 

Maybe you just need more credit cards? Put the purchase on a lot of credit cards?

2" or 2-1/2". 3" doesn't really gain you anything other than looks when you're at the mall. The higher you lift, the less droop you have left (unless you go with extended travel shocks and all the things that go with that)

 

I did 1.9” 6112 front and 1.5” 5160s rear with B8 springs standard load. I find it to be absolutely perfect for anything I’ll do with it. And leaves on road manners very much perfect. Also still allows for a good alignment without the neee for UCAs minimizing cost and minimizing a larger departure from what Toyota engineers were going for. I believe this setup also existed in earlier Pro’s but not at a 1.9” lift but rather a 1” lift.
