I've been hammering out some (admittedly low level) mods in preparation for a 2 week camping trip to Maine, leaving Saturday...

I put separately wired Diode Dynamics SL2 LEDs in the old DRL spot:

    https://www.4runners.com/threads/di...cing-drls-in-2022-5th-gens.38127/#post-582126

I'd previously installed, and previously posted in this thread, my sleeping pallet with table, Rubitrek ATs, and Diode Dynamics interior LEDs. I should have got more LEDs for the rear hatch lights too but it's too late now for our trip I think. I also have been waiting on my RCI skid to arrive but it's not going to be here in time for our trip either. Boo!!!!!

20% tint to the front windows:

Old bedmat cut into two pieces; one lives permanently on the hatch floor, the other is temporarily on the back of the passenger seats when folded forward:

Installed a couple of power outlets wired to battery:

    FJ Cruiser shift knob:

Braided a carabiner to the fob because I'm a paracord nerd:

Braided a reflective pull handle for the hatch:

    Interior hatch release button:

Tool box drawer liner to cubbies, and Motorola MA-1 for wireless Android Auto:

Static climber's chalk bag to back of seat for large water bottle storage:

Scored me some used Weathertechs (they are nicer than they look LOL):

Big Sky SBR-1 shotty rack. Made a short swaged cable to lock the gun to the rack to be in compliance with NY / NJ laws as we pass through (not shown).

Also dusted off my basket and awning and installed them in preparation for the trip. I feel like a dork driving around for a week with nothing in it and clearly going nowhere but what the hell...

And capped it off with my wife's and my custom decal that we like to leave at sticker-appropriate venues. So far they are Key West to California, coming soon to New England...

Tell me about the Motorola MA-1 for wireless Android Auto. Right now, when I plug in my phone, my connection keeps re-booting every 15 seconds or so. So I've stopped using my wired connection and just connect via bluetooth. I'm wondering if this device might be useful. Thx

Well that may be indicative of bigger issues between your phone, operating system, and head unit...

But as far as the MA-1, not much to tell really. You plug it in, synch it to your phone's BT, and once it's set up it connects automatically (if your phone BT is on) within about 45 seconds of startup. I have my Pandora set to start playing as soon as AA opens so I really don't even use the radio anymore. I will say the only issue I have seen with this (I've used it in another car for a while) is it eats my phone battery pretty fast. Not bad for driving around town but on the highway in like 2 hours my phone will be dead; so at that point it makes more sense just to plug the phone in to charge and get the wired AA connection. Sound quality is fine on music and calls and it works pretty much flawlessly - every so often it glitches a little but we're talking once every 20 drives and disconnecting and reconnecting solves it.

There are several threads on here about it IIRC, if you want more info.

Blacked out badges, window deflectors, smoked 3rd brake light. I have a Borla muffler on order as well as some color matched engine cover stickers. I'll be painting the stock wheels soon as well. Falken tires in the fall as well.

Installed front Seat Jackers to drivers and passengers seats. WOW, what a difference in comfort. For me anyway, much better leg and back support. I sit in the seat now, instead of on the seat. Wish I would have jumped on this mod sooner.

It's not visible; it's tucked up in the curvature of the ceiling. Can't see it. That was the point of mounting it up there. It will get unloaded in NY and NJ just to hedge my bets since those guys are zealots, but generally it lives loaded up there. I'm also covered under LEOSA if I meet a total dickhead cop but I generally don't start by claiming that. Thanks for the tip though.

Blue Magic Clay Barred the entire rig top to bottom and McGuires Gold Class Carnuba Waxed it. Treated the XPEL front end with its own protector.

4Runner is looking as sharp as new.

Along the process I discovered it’s easy to trap a finger between the bottom of the lift gate and the rear bumper while vigorously shining with a towel. If it was a cybertruck, I would’ve lost a finger.

Also discovered minor scuffs from assholes in parking lots that I easily addressed.

Mine has a sunroof and I can tell you the seat jackets are game changers. I’m not even sure they change the head clearance since they really just raise the front of the seat. I’m 6’ and never noticed it. Easy install too.

Fabrication weekend (again). This past week I was thinking about having to have three positive leads going to the battery terminal (switch panel, air compressor and winch) and thought that would be sort of messy. So, I decided to install a bus bar and one main cut off switch to keep things tidy. So we had to make another mounting bracket for the bus bar. We also ran the add a fuse wire through the firewall for the ignition lead for the switch panel.

I'm 6"5'. It's close, but I don't hit my head. When I bought my 4Runner, I test drove one without a sunroof. Then I bought one with a sunroof. I had already done most of the paperwork. While hanging around the showroom to finish things up, I sat in a Limited. I was like oh crap, I might not fit in my new vehicle! Maybe something is different with the ORP, because it seemed easier to adjust the seat to fit comfortably.

Do you have the seat jackers on the passenger side too? I'm 6'4" and find there's even less headroom on the passenger side. So I've been hesitant to get get them for either side.

I don't have them. I have the rear of the seat tilted down while the front is tilted up.

My previous vehicle was a 2nd gen Tacoma. To me, the 4Runner seats are waaay better than the Tacoma.

I just cam from a 2nd gen Tacoma. A lot of guys, me included, put spacers on the back of the seat mounts to raise the back of the seats for more comfort. On 4Runners, I keep reading about front seat jackers...

I haven't done anything to the 4R seats and they are way more comfortable than the Tacoma. Just finished an 8 hour trip and was very comfortable.

    Oooh look, another mod.....
    I changed from a 3rd Gen Taco to a 5th Gen SloRunner.

One big difference that I have noticed: Seating position.

In my Taco, I had seat jackers, to give me better hip/leg comfort. I don't need them in the 4Runner. (both vehicles had sunroofs - and I'm 6' 2") I also noticed my Taco/4Runner have roughly the same ground clearance, but my Taco had a higher step in vs the 4Runner. The seat on the 4Runner is more upright, like an office chair. The seat in the Taco was like sitting in a Corvette. I was on the floor.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

When I grow up, I want to be like you. You have a garage floor that is so fancy that the tires have to park on carpeted mats.

P.S. You did a great job detailing it.

@Harringbr99 This is how you detail an engine bay.
