We have a deck boat, which is not ideal for fishing but works ok. We were planning on trying Redfish Pass or Captiva Pass on a calm day. I would love to get into some grouper or pretty much anything. :)

I lost a good snook today on a swimbait near the island.

We saw a big blacktip chasing something near shore south of Matlacha.

You are so lucky to have that near your house. I wish we had something like that here in Tallahassee. So jealous

I just picked up an sr5 in st augustine. I have only really been on the beach with my 4 wheelers. Are there any real trails or places to go off road here? I'm originally from NJ and used to ride in sandpits in the south and woods in the north. I really don't know anyone else that does offroading since moving here.

Howdy from the challenging badlands of Pompano Beach! All 5 ft above msl! ( hey, is there still a piggly wiggly in Milton? Used to be a check-in point on approach to Whiting field during my USN days).

Middle OCT is peak of the fall mullet run, so that will be a good time. Tarpon will be rolling in the Surf feeding on the mullet. Get a good cast net and portable live well for the mullet and you can free line live mullet in pvc stands with heavier tackle with a real light drag or bait runner reel. Then work lighter tackle with lures and smaller live bait while the free line bait is swimming, and listen for the line running out. Cut Blue Crab and live shrimp for Redfish and Black Drum. Live shrimp and soft baits for Snook, Trout and Redfish will hit a lure also. Back in the day Yozuri made good twitchbaits. Don't know what the hot lures are these days. @Thatbassguy will be more up on Gulf Coast fishing techniques. My shoulder is shot, so I don't fish any more and have forgotten most of what I learned over the years. Tide schedule and full moon phase plays a lot into it also. Look up some old Florida Sportsman issues for some tips also.
Good Luck, and I will drive pretty far for fresh fillets....

Good advice given. Using live bait is always best! Cast net greenback, pilchards, finger mullet

NICE. My son is heading to his first duty station as an avionics geek on B-1's at Ellsworth. Doubt he sees gators on the flight line there but I sent him this pic anyway. he's from Gainesville so it'll make him feel like home

Curious how many people on this forum live in the general area of St. Petersburg, FL? Been reading about the damage from Hurricane Helene in the area. Please check in and let me know how you're doing.

My Grandpa lived there in the 80's I remember a little. He said there was only one bridge to get the hell out so he moved to Washington state.
