Hey, Went from an 07 FJ to my new 23 4R TRD OR.
The FJ has an ARB bumper and I always had an extra key in a little magnetic case...
Since the 4r has keyless entry, what do you have as a back-up in case you lose your fob, or lock it in the rig ??

    Oooh look, another mod.....

My 4Runner came with two key fobs. I keep one locked up, in case I lose the main one. Plus, there's an actual key built into the key fob, in case the battery on the fob dies.

There are some remote start systems that allow you to add a keypad to the windshield. I don’t which ones though.

I don't think the vehicle will let you lock with the fob inside unless you go out of your way such as putting it in something to block the signal or turning the key off. (some button combo I think?)

I'm sure you could duplicate the key hidden in the fob too or just take it with you if you do the above.

Remote start with alarm that can be controlled via app. Though I can't drive it without a key (I have a 2019).

just remove battery from 2nd keyfob you want to hide. You'll be able to unlock your truck with hardware key hidden in keyfob and start your truck if you hold you keybob beside start button.

Like @scanny said. You can put the physical key in a key lockbox like you used to, and hide the key fob somewhere in the vehicle, without the battery. You can hold the fob up to the start button and the chip will enable starting without the battery.

Take fob, pop battery, put masking tape over battery, put both in ziplock bag, in hide-a-key box. Gorilla duct tape hide-a-key box on topside of frame rail-good for life. We have a family F250 my grandfather bought new in 1978. My brother just found the hide-a-key duct taped to the frame rail. Key looks new and works perfectly 46 years later. He put it back and used new tape of course.

What good does your key at home do when you are 2,000 miles away on a trip and lose your car key? On the frame, secured, isn't going anywhere until you need it.

When I go 4 wheeling on my ATV I wear nylon pants( Change when I get there & before I leave to keep the mud/silt/dirt out of my 4Runner same W/boots & shirt) have zipper pocket on my R/H calf & Velcro hip pockets. I constantly check them for key & iphone. I think I'll put them in a bag or pouch and have them under the front snap down storage area. It does have a nice zipper water proof bag accessed from under the seat I could put them in there too.

I haven't gotten that far yet. Keyholes seem to be hidden behind covers. Dealers used to demo stuff like this upon delivery. I asked how to change the tire and they didn't know so I had figure that out.

I had the dealership make a spare hard key, which I keep in a magnetic pouch in the suspension. I keep a complete spare fob turned off and in a Faraday pouch inside the 4R.

Good stuff, and one minor note: The style of key fob changed for MY22 and newer 4Runners, but it still has a spring loaded physical key inside and a key opening on the driver door handle. Car Care Nut talks about it here at the 20:30 mark (hopefully timestamped):

I keep a spare fob in a faraday bag hidden in the vehicle. If needed I can unlock the vehicle with the Toyota app and grab the hidden key.

I have found at least three of those magnetic deals on the trails. Instead, I have a cheap copy of my main key wired up in a secret place. It won't start the truck, but it will at least get me in the cab. And inside my truck I have a real key. When I'm the driver with friends, I tell them where it is in case I go missing while I'm out hiking.

Unlocking with your phone requires cell data service? That means it won't work on trails outside cell coverage area or in deep underground parking garages?

I have a hitch safe with a home made faraday cage inside (aluminum foil, paper towel, aluminum foil) if I want to leave a key or have a spare available. Haven't been able to defeat it yet. May try that low power mode as well.

I have a 2023 ORP, the Toyota app is useless for me, how are you able to unlock via the app.

Do you not see lock & unlock on the app. Mine is TRD Pro and I thought other trims have everything other than remote start.

    Just storage mods.
I have a ORP and all the Toyota app does is sometime show the odometer reading.
