What Yr/Model?? I looked in my old 2018 TRD OR manual I down loaded back when I bought it. pg 417-426 I didn't see any "D" in the warning lights?

More info needed. I know on my 2019 R (reverse) blinks when it's engaged.

But D (drive) may mean a transmission issue?

Probably a flaky transmission range sensor (aka neutral safety switch).

This seems pretty typical. Mine acts up from time to time. I wonder if I should just go ahead and change it preemptively.

^I think a failed switch may strand you (can't crank the engine if "P" position isn't detected).

That's certainly some incentive to get it done.

If you do it, let me know how painful it is. Guy at the dealership said they can be a pain and you need to be careful not to break the pin/shaft that extends out of the transmission. He's a solid guy whom I've worked with for years.

^On a 2019, it probably isn't too painful. On older 4Rs, you'd be chiseling the rusted old switch off in pieces. There are Youtube videos showing how that's done.

^Newer years will be less rusty.
