Recently picked up a 2011 4Runner with 255k on it. I got it super cheaper so I expected to need to fix a few things on it. I took it to the stealership today and they wrote me up a long list of fixes. The most concerning was a drive shaft replacement. They said that an ear was broken. I’m not mechanically inclined but I crawled under and snapped a few photos. Does it look like it needs to be replaced to you?

I mean it looks like those zerks haven't seen lube in at least 50,000 miles but I don't see a broken ear.

Drive forward a foot or two and look at every yoke ear to see if you see anything.

Driveshafts aren't the most complicated thing to replace on your own.

You’ll likely get more traffic if you post this in the 5th Gen forum.

As to your topic, I would try another dealer or mechanic not mentioning the issue.

Dealers rarely repair a component they can sell and install as a whole unit. So not surprising how they quoted you.
I suggest finding a good (honest) independent mechanic. I would have your independent mechanic assess the diffs gear oil, the transfer case lube and especially the tranny fluid.
Change all of them if not looking really fresh!

The under hood fluids -brake, power steering, coolant-should be easier to inspect.
Hope you have many trouble free miles with your truck.
