Hey all, new trd pro owner here, looking for some opinions/advice. Bought the car a month ago, came with toyoguard and a supposed sealant. Was washing the car for the first time yesterday when I noticed that the entire paint job feels rough, like sandpaper. Washing does not seem to remove this feeling. I've owned many cars, never had this. Paint looks fine. Does anyone know what this is? Is it the sealant? Contaminants? I'm trying to figure out if its something a detailer can fix or if it's a paint defect I should be going to dealership for (not even at 1k miles). Advice welcome. Thanks.

probably contaminant and needs to be clayed. It will then need to be polished and sealed.

Welcome. It’s probably rail dust or fallout. A good decontamination wash, clay bar, and polish will make it smooth. A good detailer can do this for you.

Long shot here but could be over spray of clear coat also. I had a fender repainted one time and the car was not covered properly and clear coat went on trunk and opposite fender. It felt gritty or sand paper like also.

Thankfully a good detailing place buffed a lot out and I slowly did rest.

As mentioned look up rail dust also. I would think you would see some red or brown dot spots with that though. But that is common with new vehicles.

The root cause could be a number of things, but no matter what it is, you need to have your dealer look at it first - just in case it gets serious. Next, DO NOT let any average dealer detailer (16-year-old zit faced kid with a rotary and a wool pad) work on it. Most dealer detailers are just plain hacks and can actually cause more harm than good. I've detailed vehicles for over 30 years and can say this with absolute confidence. That said, there are a few good ones out there.

My bet is that you have surface contamination of some sort and relatively non-invasive methods such as clay or a light polish will take care of the issue. Then you need to have the surface re-sealed with whatever product the dealer originally applied.

claybar works wonders on overspray and contaminants, should take it off quickly with a little elbow grease.
Waiting a month to say it was bought that way, could be a problem.

Ecological and friendly water based paint. I hate trying to touch up lacquer paint if it's called lacquer now. They were talking about changing and reducing thickness back in 2008. Supposed to save 6lbs a vehicle by reducing a couple mils. I think that's when that began.
