Hello to everyone reading this, hope I'm doing this right because I'm a rookie at the forum thing. I was given a 1997 Toyota SR5 V6 a couple years ago and it has ran great no problems what so ever until about a week ago. The scanner threw code P0304 which is misfire on #4 I believe. Replaced all 6 spark plugs and coil pack on passenger side furthest forward. Truck starts just fine and sounds smooth until RPMs drop below the 1, then it sputters and has very little power. Not sure where to go from here. Also added some Lucas deep clean fuel injector cleaner.

I hope that is not a developing head gasket problem. How did the spark plugs look when you removed them?

Had a 96 T-100 and around 260k miles is blew the head casket. Symptoms similar. Hope not though for your sake because expensive repair. In my case I fixed it and drove it until 320k miles and that was it. All that held this truck together in the end was duct tape. It looked really bad...

I thought the spark plugs looked old and worn out but I honestly do not even know what to look for, I have never changed my own plugs until now. I have a picture of the plugs, can I upload it on here somehow?

The spark plugs show wear, which is fine - but they all look the same, which is outstanding. I don't see a spark plug that shows evidence of a head gasket problem, so far.

As long as you are not adding coolant from time to time, or consuming an abnormal amount of engine oil, the engine should be pretty good.

You didn't tell us how many miles are on your truck. At some point with high mileage, the valve seats wear, and the truck might throw a code (with a check engine light) and would probably fail a smog check.

Perhaps some other members will chime in, but the code you had could be related to something other than a misfire, such as maybe an oxygen sensor going out.

mileage is 239,328...the code reader should tell me if o2 sensor is bad though correct?or would it come up as a misfire?

Possibly. I was hoping some other members with experience with your model year would chime in with knowledge.

In older vehicles, the code would say something specific like your cylinder misfire description, but then in the engine manuals there would be a list of possible causes. In your case, you could Google your code and see what information comes up.

EDIT: I just Googled your P0304 code, and there is a lot of information, including YouTube videos with causes and descriptions of what to do to fix.

The problem also could be a fuel injector. Troubleshooting is a process of elimination.
