First off, wish I would have made the switch sooner. Been driving Fords since I was 15, so the last 18 years I have known nothing but the blue oval. Up until about the 2000's I will say they were reliable. Couple bronco's and a ranger in the 4x4 world, then a SHO and Roush Mustang. I don't think the latter would last till 100k without major issues. 4Rs were always catching my eye between the looks, reliability, and THE BACK WINDOW.

That being said, I have a 24' TRD ORP, already picked up a set of Fox pro take off's with 20k on them, and just made my first purchase here tonight from a fellow member the wescott designs coilover spacer setup. Due in the next week or so is the hi-lite winch bumper. Hoping the suspension setup I have won't cause severe rake with the front weight. Then again I have a rig'd ultra carrier I plan on using out back until I can get a carrier built into the rear bumper. The cherry on top is the inspired overland carbon fiber RTT that should arrive in late June that will make off pretty good on the prinsu rack I put on a week after driving off the lot.

All in all, looking for pointers of known problem areas to look out for that I may have missed on the forum. Long term plan is either kings or OME setup. Appreciate any suggestions in advance!

Too poor to buy anything now
Welcome. I came from 20+ years of Tacomas to my first 4R and haven't looked back with any regrets.

Guess I've just been lucky. I have a 2007 E350 van, 4x4 conversion; in 17 years only problem was a brake switch that needed changed out because it would not let the cruise control stay engaged. I also have a 2016 F150 with the 3.5 Ecoboost engine. It has never been in the shop for any reason, all I do is change oil/filters and rotate the tires. So not all 2000+ Fords are unreliable.

I too have own and driven Fords in the past. Some Fords that were in my company fleet have proven to be problematic with no abuse and with just regular daily driving. We had a 2009 Ford Ranger with the 6cyl engine we got new from the Ford dealer that died on us around 80K miles. We took it back to Ford and they said there was a design flaw in the engine that caused one of the cylinders to go out and it needed a new engine. We also had a few Ford Escapes that had garbage transmissions or CVTs that went out on us too.

I was really never brand loyal to any manufacturer but do have my favorites. I would say Toyota is my top brand to go to for reliability and dependability. If I won the Powerball, I’d own my favorite vehicles from all manufacturers.
