Please help what are my options?

    140k original miles V8 2006
    Located in Allentown, PA

After a 7 hour drive and parking it for 2 weeks in the cold while traveling I came back and it wouldn’t turn on. Took it to mechanic who said 6 of the 8 ignition coils are cracked like this.

In terms of the compression issues - 6 out of the 8 cylinders have compression of 170 PSI

The bad head has 0 PSI, zero compression. The other faulty head has 152 PSI, so low.

I had the mechanic change the spark plugs and the coils to see if it fixes the problem and no luck.

Do I need a new engine or what are my options? That’s what the mechanic is saying. I called around, but I can’t find any V8 engines anymore[IMG]

Don't have any knowledge on the V8 but just wanted to say I feel for you and hope you get it squared away.

You should have your mechanic do a leakdown test in addition to compression also check coolant for oil contamination & vice versa. That should tell you what is really wrong with the engine. Then you can make an informed decision on how to proceed. car-part.com is a good place to look for used parts, including engines. Nationwide look up & most will ship. Good luck.

The ignition coils aren't a big deal and easily replaced. You can get new Denso coils from rockauto.com. Not cheap to replace all 8, at around $800+ but I would for sure replace all 8 without question.

As for the one cylinder with zero compression, there are several things that could cause that, like bad valves in the head, cracked cylinder wall or blown piston/rings.

How cold did it get while the car sat? Did it freeze multiple times? That's about the only thing that could have caused a cylinder to crack and lead to the zero compression in one cylinder.

The 2UZ V8 can be found in several vehicles, so a replacement shouldn't be that difficult to find. It was in the 4runner and you can use the V8 from 05 to 08 from any 4Runner. It also came in the Tundra, you just have to make sure you get a V8 that has VVT-i.

There's also the potential option of having yours rebuilt, if the cylinder walls aren't actually cracked. Here's a rebuild master kit as an example - https://www.lceperformance.com/4-7L-2UZ-FE-Master-Rebuild-Kit-p/1010084.htm
