Hello everyone, this is my first time on here and I'm hoping to find some help. I recently acquired a 1996 4runner limited 4x4 at a terrible price. It had a salvaged title (that I didn't know about until after I got it) it had front end damage that has been repaired but you can still see signs in the body lines. The head gasket blew and my ex step father took the engine apart to repair it. He lost some parts and had others stored in a hard roof case that filled with water. They went through a divorce and a bankruptcy and I purchased this as is to help my mom out who got stuck with it. I purchased a used motor for it and am in the proccess of installing it. At the moment I am having trouble locating where to plug these 2 connectors into. The first image is taken right above the brake master cylinder this harness I found wraps around the master with 3 plugs coming from out of it the first two plugged in above this one but I can't locate where this one plugs in. The second 2 images are of the second plug i cannot locate where it plugs into. It comes from the harness that comes from the transmission area. It was covered in grime and grease making me think that it goes down not up like I have it in the picture, but I cant Find anywhere to plug it into. The ends of these plugs were clean making it look like they have spent there lives plugged in not like an accessory that wasn't optioned. If anyone knows where these plugs go or has any advice please respond. I can provide more pictures if needed. I have not started this yet so I don't know if it runs without these plugs or not.

That plug does look familiar. I'll look under my hood and see if I have it tomorrow(I might not, I have a different engine transmission and no ABS), just leave it for now. It might be something for 4wd, I know Toyota put plugs for rear diff locker on every 4runner whether equipped or not.

This looks like the plug on the charcoal canister, but it look like that is already there.

Thank you for your reply. On that harness coming over the master mine has 3 connectors coming off it. I plugged one into a sensor above one into the charcoal canister and have one left. I am not home now I will look at mine more when I get home and diff it to yours. Sorry for the slow reply I just went on to an 8 day rotation at work so my progress will be slowed for a min.

Any ideas on the lower plug by the drivers exhaust manifold pictured?

I have also downloaded a manual from online I just haven't had time to look at it yet.

I have received my intake gaskets so I will be putting the intake manifold on. I have to flush the trans cooler and line because they were left unplugged then hopefully I can attempt to start this thing and see what other problems I have.

Mine looks different. But I did find another blue plug hidden away sort of near the mounting bolts of the fuse box,

Well for now I have given up on the upper plug. From where the plastic cable tie clips in it is only a few inches longer I feel I have ruled out anything within reach of it. It is a cleaner plug all around and was possibly not being used before.

At this point I'm focusing on this lower plug. It is covered in sludge similar to everything under the exhaust level so I assume it has to be plugged in under there. Also since it is covered in sludge it makes it look pretty apparent that this one was plugged into something.

Front diff! I thought I looked there but I found where the lower plug goes. I got some time this morning to look at it.
