    Hello! I have recently acquired my late brother's 1996 4Runner and he absolutely trashed(putting it lightly) the interior of it and I now need to replace...basically the entire interior. I was wondering which years of 3rd gen 4Runners I could possibly pull from scrap yards to replace my interior? Would anyone know of a list of years that would match various interior parts for a '96?

    For more specific parts, I need;
    -seats
    -flooring
    -door panels
    -center consol(probably the gear shift as well)
    -visors
    -several buttons and nobs on the dash
    ***Just assume everything needs to be replaced honestly. TIA!

    You can pull anything from 1996-2002 assuming the donor car has similar options, except for the center console or anything touching it (1996-1998 only) and some electrical stuff like window switches (1996-~1998). Front seats I think should be fine all years, but try to pull from older vehicles because I'm not certain about that.

    You can't pull seatbelts from anything after 1998 since they got pretensioners. Steering wheel got gen 2 airbags starting in 1998, so you 1996-1997 for that.

    Awesome! Thank you very much! You just made looking through the scrap yards so much easier!

    3rd gens fall into 3 sub gens:

    1996-1998
    1999-2000
    2001-2002

    Best bet is to shoot for a 96-98 for you.

    I’d highly suggest “upgrading” the 96 center console to a 99+, you’ll need to relocate or drill a new hole for the back window switch, but well worth it. Also get some Katzkins and new seat bolsters from eBay for the seats. You can gussey them up pretty good if you have the time and a little coin.

    You can swap a 99 center console in, but it requires several other trim pieces, and it requires a different parking brake lever. If you want to go this route, I suggest converting the little cubby in the 99 console into a switch panel, that way you can keep the 1998 4runner center stack with its additional cupholders (flimsy as they might be) so you'll have 4 cupholders which is baller. It also saves a lot of trouble moving around switches. You can 3d print that panel, I made my own that doesn't compromise on the number of switches, it holds 4 instead of 3.

    Personally, if you're just trying to make the interior intact, don't do the upgrade unless you find a really good deal, 1999+ center consoles are really expensive. If its a daily, its a good mod, if it's going to get used infrequently just find something that works.
