I'm hoping Tinkers Adventure got invited to this event. He would know if the base 4wd had metal skid plates.

If you have an old car, you know parts sharing starts to become a really good thing. If the parts that are shared work well, I have no problem with it. The windows on the new generation seem smaller. When I was watching Doug's videos on the 4runners, each generation of interior got progressively less open feeling. The black ceiling doesn't help, but windows certainly got smaller and higher for crash protection.

Probably something like this, above the fender vent, and keep some meat next to the silver valance - to retain at least one bumper cover fastener down there.
This photo at the bottom shows the potential difficulty in choosing the cut line - big fenders are in the mix for sure.
It even looks to me like the bumper cover-to-body seam goes under the fender, little different to this remove bumper as well.

Toyota hybrids are pretty much bulletproof. The problem is the battery itself that dies if not used regularly. Heads up, 6th geners, drive the stupid things at least a couple of miles a day. Don't park them for 6 months. And clean and replace the air filters battery for the battery. I think they have inverter coolant too. Baby the stupid things and hppe for the best, they aren't your good old trucks

This is still not too horrible. Jeep's 4xe is bullshit on steroids. I can't wait when Cummins releases their hydrogen motors, this battery nonsense has gone too far. Hydrogen vehicles have batteries too so we are screwed there too

5th gen has 33 degrees in the front. And a Viper cut on the 6th gen seems like a challenge. Just wait when steel bumpers are made for them and get rid of the entire crap

All I’m sayin is this is gonna make it tough to camp out in the back of a T4R. It’s a major bummer.

Lift doesn't give clearance(Unless hefty problematic body lift), big tires do. So 35s are the way to go now.

MSRP will be jaw dropping. No thanks. I'm too old for that game. I've played that game in the past. Smart money is on a well cared for 5th gen. Drive it forever.

Unfortunately that means taking it out in snow and salt for many and surely the frame rust issue still exists. It’s a catch 22 for those who want to keep a long time. You’re right not the good old trucks.

If you want to buy one and retire and keep for long time and won’t drive as much, or work from home probably not a good idea.

I’m so glad we can be mandated so many personal sacrifices in favor of what some think are good for the environment

I have a Honda Civic with 230k miles on it and never had a single issue and all I’ve really ever done is oil changes and belts at the required interval. Turbos are not that bad.

“Like the Tacoma, the 4Runner is built on Toyota’s new TNGA-F body-on-frame truck platform and should deliver ride quality improvements we’ve seen in other vehicles. Unlike the Tacoma, Toyota will continue to assemble the 4Runner at its Tahara plant in Japan. GearPatrol.com “

I'm curious how long it will be from the lift-gate to the fully folded seat. It might be long enough for shorter people.

Otherwise, I wonder if the seats will be easy to remove, in order to use the full length to back of the front seats.

What's the point of owning a 4×4 and letting it sit all Winter? Bad weather is what they're made for.

With a completely new frame, how are you already certain that there's going to be rust issues?

And, frame rust was mostly a Tacoma issue. Every once in awhile someone will claim that 4Runners are just as bad, but there is nothing to support that statement.

Obviously every battery will grenade after 10 years. Look around on this forum. It's well known that battery technology hasn't changed since the '70's.

Kidding aside, I do believe it will be a maintenance item. But, I believe bad cells can be replaced on some batteries and it's a lot less expensive than replacing the whole thing.

Luckily we also have a non-hybrid option.

No, it was not a given, apparently you have not been reading the speculation thread for the last year. There was lots of information and posts that it was moving to Mexico.

One post said it would start production in Japan for the first year and then transition to Mexico in future years, let's hope that is wrong as well.

Love it, love it, love it!……all but the Limited (ugh!).

Seems like a blend of 4th and 5th gens. Well done looks wise. Will eventually see how she drives.

Anyone catch whether a review mentions if these new engines will have stop/start when the vehicle is stationary?

I like it. The exterior seem to be tad overdone but overall looks like a maturer design. The interiors with those tan seats looks great.
I can see a lot of people with a grand highlander or a Honda pilot in mind also looking at this due to its softer, more family friendly vibes. Might not have the same space but even then.
Toyota should still sell bucket loads of these.

I am not certain they did not update the frame for rust issues. But if they did nobody commented of the videos I watched anyway and I think they would be worthwhile commenting on

I get most probably want to use it in winter but some of us want to get a longer life out of it. I have read enough posts about frame rust (had some upon delivery myself), needle bearing issues, garnish rubbing paint on rear hatch, etc on this website that I believe are legit issues.

I think the bulk majority of us enjoy our 4Rs myself and believe it’s overall a quality vehicle the 5th Gen. But not even toyota is exempt from issues. These are all designed with human elements and not perfect. The key is how issues are handled and addressed. Are they corrected properly and to the best of a company’s ability. It’s just like any of us owning up when we make mistakes we all make them but do your best to correct it and prevent in the future.

They must be selling the Tacomas like hot cakes. I’ve seen one on all the lots here and that briefly

It's a completely new frame. There could be issues, but there's no reason to assume there will be.

You don't need to park it all Winter for it to last. My '03 lived outside and had a solid frame after 257K miles and years of neglect. If you're really concerned, there are numerous products that can protect the frame.

Where are all of these posts about frame rust? Are you talking about surface rust?

The last time someone claimed they were worse than Tacomas, they could only provide 3 examples of significant frame rust (on 4Runners) and they were high mileage vehicles and likely caused by neglect. I wouldn't worry about it so much.

Oh boy! That will really boil my blood. That’s one thing 4R should never do. “Old school” no

So I finally watched TRDJON’s YouTube video of the TRD PRO and I actually liked what I saw. Maybe I’ll get one someday but I’m still keeping my 5th Gen…lol.

I do have one question though. My 2022 Lexus had ventilated seats which I was never able to get comfortable sitting on. (This was the reason I got rid of it). I’m wondering if the ventilated seats will effect the seat’s comfort?
