Door ajar light always and can't shift out of park

I recently bought a 2006 v8 limited and closed the hatch with a tool bag slightly in the way. As it closed it struggled but managed to latch. When I went to open it, there was a pop as the latch was under strain.
Afterward even with it and all other doors closed, the door ajar light stays on constantly along with accompanying panel lights and such. I also can't shift out of park now, a safety measure of some sort I imagine. Until I can figure this out I have left the battery disconnected to prevent drain.
I have tried removing the appropriate fuse and putting it back in after 10 seconds, as well as reconnecting battery. In both instances all lights are off until I lock and unlock the doors, then they come back on.
